Major Responsibilities:

  • Develops, reviews and approves construction detour plans, area traffic construction management plans and contract drawings to ensure that contractors and developers comply with the safety requirements for traffic management through the construction zone and are in compliance with all applicable legislation/regulations.
  • Coordinates and schedules all closures of streets and expressways, while ensuring the impact of these closures on the street network is minimized and traffic flow is maintained to the best possible service level.
  • Facilitates and maintains relationships with staff of all City divisions through a coordinated effort to minimize disruption to daytoday operations and impact on traffic flow.
  • Works with elected representatives, neighbourhood groups, local businesses and members of the public to find solutions to problems caused by construction projects, special events and filming.
  • Attends/coordinates site meetings with affected agencies/stakeholders to discuss potential traffic mitigation related to construction activity special events or filming to ensure that the needs of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, transit and emergency services are accommodated.
  • Coordinates the implementation of any required signs, pavement markings and traffic signal modifications pertaining to construction activities, special events, or filming and liaises with internal and external officials, including transit, police and other emergency services.
  • Establishes the budgetary requirements of the planned projects and events.
  • Researches, compiles and analyzes data and prepares reports to elected officials, members of the public, Special Purpose Bodies, Standing Committees and City Council, assessing impacts and recommending corrective measures where necessary.
  • Coordinates the delivery of the shortterm and longterm objectives of the Transportation Services, Engineering Construction Services and Water and Waste Water Divisions. Ensures that the City's objective does not conflict with the Toronto Transit operations, Economic Development and Tourism initiatives.
  • Assigns work and provides direction to other staff assisting with work zone traffic coordination within traffic operations.
  • Assists in the development, organization and implementation of programs for traffic studies, including area/neighbourhood/corridor/construction traffic management plans and attends public meetings as required.

  • Post
  • secondary education in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable experience in traffic engineering and construction management or related field.
  • Experience in traffic modelling and other software for traffic analysis.
  • Experience in traffic related bylaws and legislation such as the Highway Traffic Act, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Ontario Traffic Manual.
  • Possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's licence and have access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.

You must also have:

  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to use software packages relevant to supporting the division's core requirements.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to be an active representative of the City at meetings with elected officials, the public, ratepayers and business associations, special interest groups, stakeholders in a clear and effective manner.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills to provide work direction, and develop/maintain solid internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to use critical judgement, analytical thinking and problem solving skills in multi
- stakeholder situations.

  • Adaptability to prioritize work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prioritization and organization skills to work within and meet tight deadlines.
