Position Summary An exciting opportunity is available in our Metals division in Fort Saskatchewan for a Specialist, Operational Excellence. Reporting to the Director, Operational Excellence, this role focuses on supporting the development and implementation of the Operational Excellence program in alignment with the business strategy. The position requires a mix of analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Accountabilities

  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement projects and events, including creating project plans, establishing timelines, and monitoring progress until successful completion.
  • Support the implementation of Operational Excellence program elements.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to foster the Operational Excellence culture and enhance overall engagement while maintaining flexibility in approach.
  • Guide leaders and employees in using Operational Excellence tools, templates, and resources.
  • Monitor and advise on the alignment of improvement projects with Operational Excellence standards and procedures.
  • Assist leaders in formulating, rolling out, and evaluating their annual business objectives and plans.
  • Evaluate, develop, lead, and suggest Operational Excellence training programs focused on enhancing continuous improvement skills organization-wide.
  • Advise department and functional leaders on effective communication and change management practices to ensure smooth change implementation.
  • Support and coach employees and leaders in identifying and executing improvement projects.
  • Collect and analyze data to aid decision-making and assess the efficacy of process enhancements, identifying trends, root causes of issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Offer recommendations for key performance indicators to ensure relevant measurements in alignment with the overall business strategy.
  • Collaborate with different departments to promote a cross-functional approach to problem-solving and improvement, acting as a link between stakeholders to ensure alignment and cooperation.
  • Establish and enforce quality assurance processes to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and continuous improvement practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Recognized Continuous Improvement Certification or equivalent in Lean or Six Sigma (e.g., Green Belt or Black Belt).
  • 2 years of experience in developing, implementing, and understanding continuous improvement principles and practices (Lean, Six Sigma, process optimization).
  • Experience in the energy, minerals, or chemical production sector is advantageous.
  • Change management certification is beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, event facilitation, and presentation capabilities to effectively communicate ideas and recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Analytical skills to transform data into valuable business insights for decision-making.
  • Strong ability to influence and collaborate with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and a results-driven mindset.
