PACIFICA TREATMENT CENTRE

Pacifica Treatment Centre (Pacifica) is an innovative charitable sector society, founded in 1977, providing gender-inclusive in-residence treatment and in-community recovery-focused services for individuals experiencing challenges associated with problematic substance use (drugs and alcohol), in conjunction with concurrent mental health concerns and trauma.

Pacifica established a continuum of services creating the conditions required to facilitate individualized recovery-goal achievements that improve quality of life and well-being

Pacifica offers:

pre-engagement services; case management/system navigation, orientation; primary treatment (35-bed in-residence); resiliency and trauma; integrative wellness; continuing care; and, alumni services.

Pacifica's interdisciplinary team uses a trauma-informed therapeutic community approach, which allows individuals to "own their path" to self-discovery, self-empowerment, and self-actualization.

We do this through treatment, education and support that strengthens individuals, families, and their communities.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
Pacifica respectfully acknowledges that we provide services in the unceded traditional and overlapping territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), xwməθkwəy̓əm
(Musqueam), and Səlí̓lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and strive to do so with a collaborative spirit of reconciliation, respect and honour for the land, its peoples and their ancestors.

Pacifica is committed to providing individualized care, through the identification of recovery-focused goals.
Discharge planning begins at the time of admission and continues with appropriate goal-review and modification along the way.

The community member journey may select to continue their recovery journey post treatment, through Resiliency, Continuing Care and Alumni Services, and external referrals to community resources for ongoing services and supports.

Pacifica embraces values that support gender equity; anti-oppression; anti-homophobia/anti-transphobia; the elimination of stigma; sex-positivity; access for people with disabilities; anti-harassment and workplace violence; and, anti-racism.

Pacifica commits to these values because we serve individuals from marginalized and racialized communities who experience systemic barriers to service access.

Pacifica aims to reduce systemic barriers and ensure these values are reflected in our everyday work.

Pacifica commits to the meaningful engagement and inclusion of people who have experienced challenges often

associated with problematic substance use.

This commitment ensures that we intentionally seek the leadership of individuals with "lived experience" at all levels of the organization.

Pacifica requires all individuals that identify as being in recovery from substance use have a minimum of 2 years substance-free.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK

  • Function as the initial point of contact, while individuals prepare to enter the program.
  • Assess each individuals' needs associated with their substance use history, in conjunction with concurrent mental health concerns and trauma.
  • Identify and refer individuals to the most appropriate level of care based on their needs (if Pacifica is not the most appropriate service), when appropriate.
  • Ensure that medical, dental, optometry, and practical needs are addressed in advance of admission to
Pacifica.

  • Engage with allied community services, including but not limited to, harm reduction, bedbased and community recovery services, substance use treatment, mental health, housing/shelter services, etc.
Working from a trauma-informed, culturally safety, strengths-based approach, the Pre-Engagement

Coordinator will utilize a variety of skills and tools to assist in increasing an individual's recovery capital by promoting and supporting a holistic, wellness-based approach to recovery.

Illustrative Examples of Work

  • Coordinating peer outreach personnel to assist with community members' communitybased needs, including attending meetings and appointments;
  • Conducting regular oneonone virtual and telephone checkins, brief supportive counselling, advocacy, and navigation support;
  • Implementing and facilitating communitybased preengagement groups and inhouse orientation groups;
