SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector. We are seeking a Health and Safety Advisor.

Description of Responsibilities:

As part of the SRK North American group, the Health and Safety Advisor will help ensure the health, safety, and security of SRK employees by implementing and supporting health and safety initiatives. They will be committed to communicating safety policies and serving as a resource for employees.

Job duties and responsibilities include:
  1. Monitor the effectiveness of implementation, use, and continual improvement initiatives of Health and Safety (H&S) standards and programs throughout SRK North America.
  2. Ensure all business units have access to the resources necessary to implement H&S standards.
  3. Foster an environment of collaboration and active participation in H&S where employees understand and identify risks to make the best decisions.
  4. Maintain and update written H&S plans and supporting documents.
  5. Maintain accurate and complete records that meet regulatory requirements.
  6. Manage H&S training programs, including new hire orientation.
  7. Develop strategies in conjunction with Legal and Human Resources to ensure compliance with all H&S regulations in Canada and the U.S., including MSHA, OSHA, or other regulatory bodies.
  8. Monitor regulatory developments in H&S for new and/or revised compliance obligations.
  9. Responsible for Health and Safety data management including trend analysis for assigned sites.
  10. Promote H&S awareness through internal company communications.
  11. Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents. Determine causes, implement corrective measures as needed, evaluate trends in incidents, and make recommendations for prevention.
  12. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and other control measures that mitigate risks to employees.
  13. Coach and counsel project managers about various safety-related topics.
  14. Work collaboratively with project managers and staff to develop H&S plans and risk management strategies for safe project execution.
  15. Conduct periodic office and site visits/audits/surveys to assure H&S best practices.
Essential Requirements:

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of safety and risk management best practices with the skills and confidence to foster a positive health and safety culture. The ideal candidate will have a combination of some of the following:

  • 5 - 10 years of experience in a H&S management or advisory role.
  • CRSP or CSP designation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety management system design, implementation, and auditing principles.
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting project-focused risk assessments.
  • Experience working in technical consulting, mining, engineering, and / or major EPC / EPCM.
  • Ability to understand and interpret relevant HSE legislation and standards to assess their potential impact on projects and business activities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions.
  • Ability and confidence to engage with project managers and other stakeholders to identify project H&S requirements and risk management strategies.
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills.
  • Experience with third party safety management and compliance reporting systems.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
