Senior Safety Specialist

Job Summary:
The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Safety Advisor to join its Safety Resources team. As a key member of the team, the Senior Safety Advisor will play a crucial role in promoting a safe and healthy environment at the University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective safety management systems to reduce injury rates and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Conduct thorough incident investigations, report findings, and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents.
- Lead the development of injury prevention activities and training programs to promote a culture of safety and care.
- Provide oversight and case management for Workers Compensation Board (WCB) recordable incidents and injuries.
- Manage files for WCB processes, communication, and reporting requirements.
- Develop and communicate reports on incident/injury statistics to stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to ensure employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs safely.
- Ensure effective internal and external communications to promote a culture of safety and transparency.
- Foster a culture of safety and care within the University community.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education and/or an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Practitioner Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years of experience in health and safety, with extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, regulations, and legislation.
- Experience in conducting investigations, communicating findings and recommendations, providing health and safety training, managing WCB claims, and implementing Safety Management Systems.
- Preferred: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation.
- Experience in a unionized and/or post-secondary academic environment is an asset.
- Experience in a veterinary or animal care setting is an asset.

- Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships.
- Working knowledge of the OHS Act and Regulations.
- Ability to collaborate with others to achieve agreed-upon outcomes.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective planning and organizational skills, including managing competing priorities and time management.
- Understanding and demonstrated ability in adult training principles.
- Proficient computer skills.
