Job Summary:

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Advisor to join its Safety Resources team. As a key member of the team, the Senior Safety Advisor will play a crucial role in promoting a safe and healthy environment at the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective Safety Management Systems to reduce injury rates and promote a culture of safety.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations, report findings, and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents.
  • Lead the development of injury prevention activities and training programs to educate employees on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Provide oversight and case management for Workers Compensation Board (WCB) recordable incidents and injuries, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage files and communicate with stakeholders regarding WCB processes and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and communicate reports on incident/injury statistics to inform safety strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs to ensure employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs safely.
  • Foster a culture of safety and care within the University community, promoting a proactive approach to risk management.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education and/or an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in health and safety, with extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, regulations, and legislation.
  • Experience in conducting investigations, communicating findings and recommendations, providing health and safety training, managing WCB claims, and implementing Safety Management Systems.
  • Preferred: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation.
  • Experience in a unionized and/or post-secondary academic environment is an asset.
  • Experience in a veterinary or animal care setting is an asset.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships and collaborate with others to achieve agreed-upon outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of the OHS Act and Regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and time management.
  • Understanding and demonstrated ability in adult training principles.
  • Proficient computer skills.
