As a community Correctional Peace Officer, you will be a valued member of a team that is essential to maintaining the safety and security of a community centre.

You will perform a variety of security functions to ensure the care and supervision of young clients while also ensuring the safety of centre staff and the public.

In this role, you will create work crew placements, schedules, book and supervise the young clients required to complete community service work.

As you will be working directly with vulnerable youth, providing support and guidance, acting as a positive role model, and developing an in-depth knowledge of behaviors and personalities is fundamental in order to succeed in this role.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that young clients abide by court orders -imposed conditions while in the community under curfew.

It also includes the supervision of youth attending the school and other educational programs provided at the attendance centre.

You will be highly motivated to work with young people and thrive in a demanding and stressful work environment. Well-developed interpersonal skills, sound judgment and a professional demeanor are essential to this position. You must have the ability to function effectively in a team environment and possess critical thinking skills. Well-developed verbal and written communication, along with basic computer skills are necessary to ensure success in this position. Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage conflicts effectively and in a trauma informed manner are also essential.

Shifts vary based on the Centre's needs.

Qualifications:

Correctional Peace Officer 1
High school diploma and two years of related experience.

Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.


Correctional Peace Officer 2

High school diploma and completion of the in-service training course and four years of related experience, two of those years as a Correctional Officer.


Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.


Special Requirements:
Must hold a valid driver's license. Must be physically and medically fit.

Salary:

Correctional Peace Officer 1:

$2,050.68 to $2,514.87 bi-weekly ($53,523 to $65,638 per year)

Correctional Peace Officer 2:

$2,259.25 to $2,798.18 bi-weekly ($58,966 to $73,032 per year)

Notes:


This is a Permanent position working 38.75 hours per week at the Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre (EYAC), which operates 7 days per week, 7:45am to midnight.

You will work on a rotational basis.


Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver's License is required as you will be required to travel within the region.
