Opportunity:

The Clinical Counsellor focuses on separation and divorce in this
temporary 12-month position. The clinical counsellor provides clinical counselling after assessing the client's social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioral issues.

The clinical counsellor works to develop therapeutic programs and interventions, in accordance with standards of practice outlined by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

The clinical counsellor's focus is on co-parent education support and strategy development in high-conflict situations, working with many families involved in complex Family Law situations around parenting after separation and/or divorce that include organizing parenting time and access.


The role will provide one-to-one support with a variety of treatment modalities (e.g., person-centered, solution focused, therapy, and cognitive behavioral approaches) and techniques and assist with the design and implementation of specialized groups/workshops.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and complete detailed assessments and case plans for clients referred from multiple agency streams.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic approaches and interventions of a variety of treatment modalities and techniques that recognize clients' unique characteristics and strengths as well as barriers.
  • Provide interventions and brief therapeutic supports to individuals experiencing crisis and coparenting dynamic.
  • Demonstrate ability in working with clients who face multiple challenges that impact parenting (mental health diagnosis, family dynamics, communication, family violence, child abuse and addiction)
  • Assess, screen, refer and link individuals to internal and community immediate resources as needed (e.g., family justice centers, legal support resources, family support services etc.).
  • Compile and gather collateral information
  • Participate in integrative case management meetings as needed to determine outcomes for individuals referred to the WFC
  • Consult with the Ministry for Children and Family development to coordinate and deliver services
  • Communicate and coordinate relevant client information with WFC Staff across departments as necessary.
  • Attend asneeded weekly meetings for the intake, transition and discharge of client services.
  • Provide a quick response to urgent situations that arise for clients over evenings and weekends as needed.

Skills You Bring:

  • A background in parenteducation and family interventions.
  • Strong knowledge of the Family Law Act.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Child Therapy and/ or Play Therapy and Adult and Couple Therapy.
  • Experienced in interestbased mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experienced at supporting and counselling highconflict and/or atrisk families.
  • Enjoy servicing diverse and complex clients and family situations in a unique and individualized manner.
  • Strong personal and professional boundaries and time management skills.
  • Counselling, program planning, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in written correspondence and report writing.
  • An understanding of integrated case management.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology; Marriage and Family Therapy or similar (i.e. Social Services, Family Justice Services, Social Work) with 3 years' experience
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in Child Therapy and / or Play Therapy, and Adult and Couple Therapy
  • Hold an RPT (registered play therapist) designation considered an asset
  • Hold an RCC, RSW, CCC designation considered an asset
  • Must have thorough understanding of the Family Law Act, Best-Interest Mediation and Conflict Resolution
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in facilitating Children and Adult Groups
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in working with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
  • Provide counselling in a variety of approaches that best fits client needs
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record and use of own vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR & AED Level C certificate or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
  • Current MANDT certificate
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
