The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program is focused on strengthening the quality of pathology and laboratory medicine services across Ontario and to improve individual patient care by facilitating time and accurate diagnosis and at the population level support surveillance, research and efforts to improve the delivery of pathology and laboratory medicine services.

The PLMP collaborates extensively with various stakeholders across the province to help ensure that Ontarians receive safe, high quality care.


The Analyst position is primarily responsible for supporting operations of the Genetic Testing Program, and for conducting research and analysis activities for various initiatives.

As part of this role, the Analyst collects and collates data from labs to support oversight operations, and interacts with key stakeholders and provides other support as required.


The Analyst is focused on projects/programs/operational areas that are singular or specific, have straightforward mandates/objectives, with research scopes that are focused, smaller teams and/or have similar stakeholders.


Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Project/Program/Operational support
  • Research and analysis

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Support oversight functions of the Genetic Testing Program; monitor, collate and synthesize data to support funding, planning and quality activities
  • Conduct literature searches, environmental scans and needs assessments, summarizing content in a variety of formats dependent upon audience need
  • Develop policy briefs, options analyses, and impact assessments to create program policies and guidance
  • Facilitate all aspects of projects such as identifying and concisely communicating with relevant stakeholders, minute-taking, driving agendas, and providing input in a collaborative setting to develop and implement strategies to foster quality improvement
  • Coordinate project documentation, communications, project schedules and timelines under the direction of the Program Manager-
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Provide support and coordination of activities related to the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program, and associated related committees and working groups
  • Prepare and edit presentations, educational tools and clinical decision aids through information gathering and the synthesis of existing materials
  • Prepare posters and abstracts for publication in collaboration with investigators and authors-
  • Perform cross-functional tasks and/or other duties within the Division of Clinical Institutes and Quality Programs, as required
Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience- An undergraduate degree in, health sciences, health administration, health services research, public administration or associated field or recognized equivalent; a graduate degree in either Public Health or Health Sciences is an asset.

- Minimum of 2 to 4 years of related work experience- Experience with program operations, collating and synthesizing date for reimbursement/quality oversight- Experience working with external partners and developing advice documents

Knowledge and Skills- An understanding of Ontario's health care system with particular emphasis on laboratory medicine and molecular oncology is an asset- Intermediate to advanced excel skills- A tactical thinker with experience formulating policy- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefing notes, reports, policy papers and evidence summaries- Strong relationship building skills, with demonstrated experience engaging and building relationships and consensus amongst diverse stakeholders- Ability to prioritize and manage several projects in a cross-functional team environment and to respond quickly based on timelines and project plans- Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to details and deadlines- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner with mínimal supervision- Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations- Comfortable working in a dynamic fast-paced environment with a degree of uncertainty or ambiguity- Supporting PLMP committees, other initiatives, program operations and other tasks, as assigned- Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office programs (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, Teams)
