JOB OVERVIEW:
Library Assistant, Indigenous & IDEA


Reporting to the Library Supervisor, the Library Assistant, Indigenous & IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access) focus will provide support for the Library efforts surrounding equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenization, decolonization, reconciliation.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a twoyear Library Technician diploma from a publicly accredited post
- secondary institution or combination of equivalent education, training and experience.

  • Background in equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenization, decolonization, reconciliation or lived experience.
  • An understanding of Brian Deer classification is preferred.
  • Relevant communitybased and/or professional experience rooted in Indigenous communities, knowledges, and traditions is preferred.
  • Training or experience in accessibility requirements for online resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Knowledge/training in digital or physical accessibility and/or IDEA issues would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated keyboarding skills, understanding of computer concepts and terminology, and experience with word processing software and file management systems
  • Demonstrated experience at a basic skill level in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Ability to lift 3050 pounds and move materials on carts.
