International Engagement Assistant

As part of the International and Intercultural Community Centre (IICC), the International Engagement Assistant supports student learning and development by creating a friendly, safe, and healthy community for international and newcomer students.

Reporting to the International Engagement Coordinator, the International Engagement Assistant supports International Students in their journey of cultural transition to Canada and NAIT.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support and assist in organizing and delivering events to foster student community, and support IICC workshops and the International Peer Mentor program.
  • Facilitate lowcomplexity student events and conversations.
  • Perform data collection and entries that support the International Engagement Portfolio.
  • Support the implementation of social media plan for international community engagement; this includes creating social media posts, stories, and video takeovers to drive engagement.
  • Connect students to different services at NAIT when appropriate.
  • Support front desk coverage at the IICC as needed. Duties and tasks during front desk coverage may include answering and triaging inquiries, directing students to different service areas, tracking inquiries, and performing other front desk tasks as needed.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting NAIT's student community.
  • Demonstrated student leadership, organizational skills, time management skills, and interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated intercultural understanding and awareness.
  • Ability to facilitate lowcomplexity student conversations and events.
  • Ability to engage with peers in a community space and on social media.
  • Interest in supporting community development for students new to Canada
  • Interest in supporting intercultural learning for the broader NAIT student community.
  • Familiarity with using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Understanding the cultural transition process and needs of international and newcomer students is an asset.
  • Good understanding of the various student services at NAIT is an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 1
  • Currently enrolled at NAIT as a student and will be enrolled in the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 semesters; be in good academic standing.
  • Equivalences may be considered

Remuneration:
$ $22.83 per hour, plus 12% vacation/holiday pay. (Classification - Administrative Support I).

  • This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
