Reporting to the VP, General Manager Canada, the Business Unit Head (BUH), General Medicines, will directly manage the growing Canada General Medicines business with a turnover above a quarter of a billion GBP, comprising a market-leading Respiratory portfolio and Classic & Established brands (CEB).

The BUH General Medicines is a complex role providing leadership across multiple teams and at an enterprise level. The role involves managing over 150 people across sales and marketing functions, including a large salesforce and a Respiratory Marketing team.

The General Medicines BU also conducts cross-promotion sales activities with the Vaccines BU for our Shingles and RSV vaccines, crucial growth drivers for GSK.

Management of the CEB portfolio requires strong leadership and strategic decision-making in collaboration with the internal tender team and finance.

A GSK BUH collaborates closely with various departments within the company, emphasizing cross-functional leadership and effective teamwork with the medical and market access departments.

The BUH is fully accountable for brand performance in their portfolio, including major respiratory brands like Trelegy and Breo, as well as commitments for the vaccine brands ensuring overall GSK success.

The role includes being part of the GSK Canada Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic and operational direction of the company.

The BUH, General Medicines, leads cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on priorities, with a team of over 150 people and 6 direct reports.

The General Medicines BU serves as a testing ground for new commercial innovations, making it an excellent opportunity for a creative professional to develop novel ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and inspire the Business Unit to ensure efficient distribution of medicines across Canada.
  • Ensure portfolio P+L performance through strategic planning and effective commercialization strategies.
  • Drive strategic and operational focus for the company as a member of the Canada Leadership Team.
  • Set challenging targets to improve lives and drive growth, celebrating success along the way.
  • Stay externally focused, understanding market dynamics, identifying opportunities, and building key relationships.
  • Develop and implement Brand Strategies to drive growth and track progress effectively.
  • Participate in market access planning and ensure disciplined execution of the BU strategy.
  • Manage team performance and foster a culture of excellence, compliance, and ethical standards.
  • Attract and retain top talent, promoting a culture of inclusion and diversity.

Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Minimum 8 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in profit and loss management.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA degree or post-graduate qualifications in relevant fields.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and change management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead teams during periods of change.
  • Extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry, particularly the Canadian market.
  • Proficiency in French language is a plus.
