Alexion is seeking a Director, Head of Global Medical Affairs Business Operations to bring strategic leadership and operational excellence to our Global Medical Affairs (GMA) teams. This is a role for a visionary leader who thrives on coordination and collaboration across multiple functions, and who is adept at leading an operations team dedicated to excellence in medical operations activities.

Your Strategic Leadership

In this role, you'll be at the helm of key medical operations activities, ensuring strategic alignment and efficient execution across our therapeutic areas and functions. Your role is pivotal in harmonizing efforts among numerous Medical Affairs leaders and business partners within AstraZeneca, with a focus on perfect execution and continuous process improvement.

Your Responsibilities

Your Operational Oversight

Team Management: Lead a capable GMA Business Operations team to be the central points of contact for business partners, ensuring the delivery of key operations activities. Strategic Planning: Collaborate cross-functionally to align resources and actions with broader business objectives, ensuring seamless strategic and tactical planning. Resource Management: Oversee resource allocation and management to optimize the impact of GMA Business Operations. Financial Stewardship: Manage financial forecasting, contracting processes, and ensure performance targets are met with accuracy. Performance Management: Instill a culture of high performance and continuous improvement

Your Transformative Influence

Leadership Partnership: Provide operational leadership and strategic partnership to GMALs, Medical Directors/TA leads, and functional VPs. Communicative Clarity: Keep Medical Affairs Leadership well-informed and offer insights and guidance for management interventions as necessary. Process Innovation: Identify and implement enhancements for internal processes and external vendor engagement.

Your Project Excellence

Risk Management: Anticipate potential risks and prepare comprehensive mitigation strategies. Multi-project Coordination: Lead multiple initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of all projects. Cross-functional Collaboration: Lead high-level, international cross-functional teams with finesse. Methodological Development: Craft and implement Project Management methodologies and policies across various locations.

Your Qualifications

Essential

Educational Foundation: Bachelor's degree is required. Industry Experience: A minimum of 10 years of industry experience. Strategic Implementation: Demonstrated ability to implement projects of strategic significance. Matrixed Expertise: Skilled in navigating and operating within a matrix, cross-functional environment. Leadership Prowess: Strong leadership capabilities, with a record of leading budgets and resources effectively. Communication Skills: Outstanding interpersonal abilities and a history of getting results through collaboration and project leadership.

Preferred

Advanced Degree: An advanced degree such as MD, PhD, or MBA is preferred. Process Mapping: Experience with business process mapping is a plus. Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with SmartSheet and PowerBI is advantageous.
