Sprott Shaw Language College offers a wide range of programs in Vancouver, Toronto and Victoria for English language learners from all over the world.

We strive to provide international students of all ages with valuable learning experiences in Canada.


This year, our SSLC Global Leaders Summer Camp is focused on topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations.

The program is for international students from 9 to 17 years old. The summer camp will take place at the University of British Columbia Vancouver Campus.

SSLC is seeking four part time VOLUNTEER Activity Volunteers.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience working with students and to learn about other cultures in a fun, activity based setting.


We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, outgoing, responsible and caring to ensure that our students have a memorable time at camp.

Some experience with international students or ESL speakers would be helpful.

A willingness to be patient, respectful of other cultures and understanding of the needs of a diverse student body is necessary.


Responsibilities:

  • Support activity leaders to deliver fun programming for our campers
  • Ensure students' safety, security and wellbeing
  • Maintain positive, enthusiastic and supportive environment for all camp participants
  • Participate in camp activities such as games, sports, arts and crafts, and outings
  • Collaborate with campers and staff to create a positive and inclusive camp environment

Personal Qualities:

  • Excellent oral communication and patience with non native English speakers
  • Ability to work in a team and prioritise student safety
  • Enthusiastic and improvement focused with ability to accept feedback
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a multicultural setting
  • Awareness of and adherence to personal and professional boundaries
  • A current CRC (Criminal Record Check) is a necessity

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with young international students in an ESL/ Language school setting
  • Experience in working at a residential summer camp/summer camp in Canada with international students.


 Interest in SDG
  • Sustainable Development Goals as set out by the UN.

Compensation:

  • This is a volunteer position
  • Letter of reference for successful conclusion
  • Food, transportation and activity admission costs covered
Expected hours: 12 to 18 per week ( 2 or 3 afternoon shifts roughly six hours in length)
