Fun Explorers Day Camp Project Manager

False Creek Community Centre is seeking a highly organized, energetic individual with strong leadership skills, experience in water-based activities and working with children to lead a dynamic team to provide a recreational day camp for children ages 8-13 years.
In compliance with Canada Summer Jobs Grant guidelines, applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, administration and planning skills
- Previous experience working with children in a team setting
- Demonstrated administrative skills in program planning, evaluation and reporting
- Previous experience supervising staff and youth volunteers
- Experience with budget development
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certification (or the ability to obtain certifications)
- Experience/certification in dragon boating/kayaking is an asset
- Postsecondary educational in a related discipline is desirable
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, collaboratively plan with staff team, and lead a day camp consisting of waterbased activities skills training and traditional day camp activities/outtrips, sports, games, arts, crafts, music and educational activities
- Oversee daily operation and provide leadership through regular participation in activities and outtrips to ensure a successful, positive, and safe experience for day camp staff, volunteers and children.
- In consultation with the Recreation Programmer, provide and maintain a budget for the day camp program, with duties including distribution and reconciliation of program funds, purchasing of supplies, booking activities and monitoring staff hours.
- Discipline children using teaching, encouragement and natural and logical consequence methods
- Assists with program promotion
- Maintains good communication with parents, children, coworkers and volunteers
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues, liaise and communicate with other staff, participants, parents and/or guardians who have questions/concerns regarding the Day Camp program
- Responds to first aid needs and unusual incidents
- Cleans up and secures room as per COVID19 protocols.
- Recruit, train and supervise day camp leaders and volunteers, and be a positive role model
- Provide ongoing feedback and performance reviews to staff/volunteers
- Implement and evaluate planned activities and provide reports on attendance, activities, program progress to the Recreation Programmer and complete a final written report/evaluation of the overall program.
- Ensure adherence to False Creek Community Association, Vancouver Park Board and Canada Summer Jobs 2024 policies and practices, including all Covid19 policies.
Terms/Conditions of Employment:
- Must satisfy requirements for a Police Information Check of vulnerable clients prior to start date
- Rate of pay: $23.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay, up to 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, for up to 14 weeks, May 28August 30, 2024, dependent upon Canada Summer Jobs grant funding. There will be mandatory City Wide Day Camp Manager and Leader Trainings dates TBC. Additional $290 transportation allowance will be given at the end of the season for those who fully complete their contract.
