This position maintains purchasing and accounts payable by implementing and maintaining spending, purchasing and payment policies and procedures in adherence to the mission statement of Homes First Society.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Gathering and sorting invoices, purchase orders, work orders, contracts, business case proposals and other documents and related information.
Maintains accounting ledgers by posting accounts payable and cash disbursements; ensuring compliance with purpose and type of purchase.
Pays invoices while verifying transaction for completeness and accuracy; verifying tender agreements; maintaining communication with contractors and suppliers; scheduling and preparing disbursements; batching cheques, obtaining signatures and distributing to recipients.
Reconciling statements and transactionsResolves account discrepancies by investigating documentation; issuing stop payments, payments and adjustments
Prepares financial and management reports by collecting, analyzing, formatting and summarizing account information and trends
Maintains financial security by following internal accounting controls; adhering to the spending authority schedule
Secures financial information by completing data base backups.
Maintains financial historical records by filing accounting documents.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; including back up support of other positions in finance and administration including Accounts Receivables.
Knowledge of basic accounting concepts, principles and practicesability to work with Windows based accounting packages
proficient in
Windows based word processing and spreadsheets
proficient in computerized accounting packages, word processing and spreadsheets.
organizational and time management skills
demonstrated ability to work independently
interpersonal and teamwork skills
demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
QUALIFICATIONS
post-secondary education in accounting or comparable experience
two years experience in general accounting, preferably in a non-profit housing environment.
experience in computerized accounting
Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.
