  • The Montréal West Island IUHSSC is currently looking for social workers to fill various fulltime temporary positions in the Evaluation and Orientation Service of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres in Westmount.

  • At the Batshaw Centres, you will work to ensure the safety of Englishspeaking children from different identity communities who are affected by neglect, rejection and physical, sexual and/or psychological abuse. These children may also be disadvantaged by behavioral, mental or physical health problems, or difficult socioeconomic conditions.   • The Evauation and Orientation (EO) Service
  • After an initial summary analysis, almost half of all child protection referrals are transferred to the Evaluation and Orientation Service (EO) for further investigation. If the child's safety and/or development are considered to be compromised, this service implements protective measures (with the parents' consent or as part of a court order) and initiates an intervention plan.
  • As part of your duties, you will be required to:
  • Gather information regarding reports through file review, field visits, interviews with the reporter, child, family, outreach workers, etc;
  • Analyze the problematic situation for the child (nature of the harm, severity, impact, foreseeable impact on his/her life trajectory, etc.);
  • Analyze the family system, particularly the level of concordance between the family's functioning and resources versus the child's needs;
  • Determine whether the child's situation is compromising in terms of safety or development, and assess the degree of risk to which the child is exposed;
  • Evaluate the parents' capacity and encourage them to put in place protective measures that will put an end to the problematic situation;
  • Participate in the identification of an alternative solution when a child cannot be maintained in his or her environment (e.g. placement in foster care, in a group home, with a significant third party, etc.);
  • Write reports, provide professional advice and recommendations;
  • Enter all relevant information into the child's computerized file;
  • Connecting parents with internal and external resources when families have psychosocial needs that do not compromise the child's safety.

  • Requirements:
  • Holds a bachelor's or master's degree in social work or social service work;
  • Is registered as a social worker on the Quebec Order of Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists;
  • Is able to assess a person within the framework of a decision of the Director of Youth Protection or the court under the Youth Protection Act ;
  • Is able to determine the intervention plan for a person with a mental disorder or at risk of suicide ;
  • Is able to establish a therapeutic relationship with a Francophone and Anglophone clientele;
  • Has a valid driver's license and a car (mileage reimbursed);
  • Has experience in evaluating referrals at the YPD (an asset);
  • Is available full time during the day and is willing to work outside of regular hours when an emergency requires it.
