About the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology
The Werklund School of Agriculture Technology's (WSAT) vision is to be a globally recognized school of knowledge and innovation, focused on technology, hands-on skills development, applied research, industry and international collaboration initiatives. Through design-based learning, students are encouraged to look at the challenges facing industry and come up with collective solutions through the use of technology. A variety of certificates, diplomas, applied degrees and post-diploma certificates are offered in agriculture, agriculture technology, and land and environment. The WSAT focuses on four key areas: land and environmental resources; agriculture and technological systems; agricultural communications; and social, physical and economic sustainability.
The Opportunity - Permanent, full-time, faculty position, Bachelor of Digital Agriculture program
In the fall of 2023, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology will launch its four-year degree program, Bachelor of Digital Agriculture. We invite applications to a Permanent Full-Time Faculty position to join the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology.
Applications are encouraged in the field of agriculture and technology, digital agriculture, or in agriculture engineering. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the school by developing a curriculum, delivering new courses, and valuing academic excellence and hands-on learning that further the college's commitment to Transforming Agriculture for a Better World. In addition to teaching, the candidate will develop a recognized applied research portfolio comprising scholarly activities that benefit the industry and help students integrate knowledge into their education.
Enhancing the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology's areas of expertise, this new faculty position complements a variety of new and existing positions across campus, including but not limited to business, sociality, economics, technologies, agronomy and engineering. Collectively, the program team explores the ongoing adoption of digital agriculture in the agriculture industry and technology transfer related to tangible products and technologies in agriculture and food systems.
New team members will support the continued development of new programming in agriculture technology and integrate it into the institution's Smart Agriculture Ecosystem, including the Smart Farm and Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI).
The Candidate
As a successful candidate, you bring an innovative vision for academic excellence and an exceptional student experience, combined with strong collegial leadership abilities that are inclusive and collaborative.
The ideal candidate should possess teaching experience and research skills in design principles, mechatronics and robotics. This includes in-depth knowledge of CAD, electromechanical, robotics, autonomous controls and systems, along with AI and human assistive systems. Experience using these systems in smart agriculture practices is an asset.

Qualifications
- The successful candidate should have completed a Master's Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in the related field, with an understanding of the Canadian agriculture context.
- We welcome applications from applicants in the final stages of completing their degrees. In your application, please identify the expected completion date).
- 5 years of experience working in academia and /or industry in the related field is an asset.
- Solid foundation in agricultural machines and related interfaces and system mechanical design.
- Experience in 2D and 3D design principles using CAD software is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to apply design thinking principles to solve challenges related to ergonomics, functional design, modular design, and product design is an asset.
- Possess a strong ability to communicate orally and in writing when working in the classroom or public forums.
- Understand different learning and teaching methodologies in a post-secondary education environment.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset.
- Demonstrated intercultural understanding with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
