About the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation 

The Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation (TLCI) at Olds College of Agriculture and Technology serves students, faculty, and staff in the following areas: Accessibility Services and Student Academic Support, Learning Commons (including the Library and Service Desk), Educational Development (including program and curriculum support, instructional support, professional development, Work Integrated Learning academic support, and Research and Scholarly Activity), Moodle and Google training and support, The Studio video production services, and the MakerSpace.

Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Director, Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation, the Manager, Learning and Instructional Design will contribute to the development of new curriculum at Olds College, the renewal of existing programming, and the advancement of pedagogically sound practices. The Manager, Learning and Instructional Design will offer ongoing personalized support to faculty members to help them design online, face-to-face, and blended courses, using effective teaching strategies and integrating technology to support student learning. This is a critical role that contributes to Olds College’s commitment towards academic excellence and student success. 

Key Job Functions:

The Manager, Learning and Instructional Design works collaboratively with multiple campus departments to support curriculum health and instructional practice. In addition to working as a member of the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation, the role works closely with academic schools (faculty, Deans, Associate Deans) and the Office of the Registrar. The Manager, Learning and Instructional Design also provides leadership to the Learning Management System (LMS) team. 

Instructional Design

Collaborate with instructors, subject matter experts, and the LMS team as an instructional designer and project lead to design and review courses and resources for a variety of learning environments (including course plans, activities, assessments, and other relevant supporting course materials). 

Apply adult learning principles to design instructional content for multiple delivery models and methods.

Actively promote inclusive teaching practices that reflect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all students.

Research new educational and learning technologies to improve online courses and content, and disseminate results.

Collaborate with other members of the TLCI team to design and facilitate instructional workshops for faculty and staff and to communicate emerging and best teaching practices. 

Design and develop rich multimedia content, including audio and video assets, illustrations, animations, and interactive content.

Program Development

Provide leadership and consultation for faculty and departments on curriculum review and program development.

Manage the assigned SMEs to ensure program development meets key milestones and objectives.

Contribute to course outcomes, objectives, learning activities, and assessments through a pedagogical lens to meet existing/new program design needs.

Collaborate with development teams to design new curricula, as well as to translate existing curricular content into new delivery formats.

Provide support with academic program reviews, including data collection, data representation, and curriculum mapping.

Utilize and develop fluency with the curriculum management system to support curriculum health processes and to maintain records.

Leadership

Develop close working relationships with all leadership, faculty, staff, and the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation team.

Research and remain current with relevant scholarly information on curriculum development, course design, assessment practices, student experience and other pedagogically sound practices. 

Provide leadership for and management of the LMS (Moodle) team, ensuring efficiency of processes and positive user experience.

Contribute to development and revision of relevant institutional policies and procedures.

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

Bachelor’s degree in education or in a related field (equivalent experience in instructional design and/or related fields may be considered).

3 to 5 years of related experience in developing teaching and learning materials in a variety of learning environments.

3 to 5 years of related experience in creating teaching resources or publications (an asset).

Displays high emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Ability to exercise judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality.

Ability to exercise diplomacy and utilize proactive problem-solving skills.

Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, and the ability to inspire confidence, credibility, and influence change. 

Demonstrated skills in effective group facilitation and communication. 

Ability to collaborate with various Schools and a variety of disciplines.

Proven ability to foster effective partnerships, particularly in the areas of collaboration, cooperation, and trust. 

Ability to manage multiple course development projects simultaneously.

Proficiency with Google Apps for Education, specifically Google Drive and its collaborative functions.

Proficiency with related technologies: Learning Management System (Moodle preference), curriculum management system (Kuali preference).

Knowledge of copyright principles and regulations in curriculum and education.
