Sentient currently operates in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa, serves over 500 centres and private schools, and employs over 400 childcare workers and RECEs. Our administrative staff actively seek opportunities to connect childcare centres to the right supply staff during times of need. Sentient can provide Supply Staff on the same day a request is made by using our user-friendly website, phone, e-mail, or text message. We are also able to provide staff for planned absences and full-time positions. We recruit passionate childcare workers and provide ongoing professional development to engage their growth mindset. The Role

The Talent Developer will act as the primary coordinator for staff to be connected with shift openings in childcare centres. The Talent Developer will be responsible for being aware of the status of our part-time employees, including but not limited to their general availability, strengths, areas of opportunity, motivations to work, and future employment goals. As the primary contact for Sentient Supply Staff, the Talent Developer will increase the ability to fill shifts, based on their knowledge of our staff and what shifts (centre location, times, etc.) would meet their desired job. The Talent Developer will also lead the Quality Assurance program, which includes visiting centres to observe and provide constructive feedback to each supply staff annually. The job entails coaching supply staff if an issue arises in a centre, tracking client issues with staff, and reporting issues and resolutions to Management. As an advocate for Sentient, the role will include being an emergency supply staff in the scenario that a supply staff is unable to make his/her shift and Sentient needs to fill the position.

Sentient HR is a trusted partner in the field of early childhood education. The Talent Developer is the contact to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The planning, monitoring, growth and implementation of Sentient's Apprenticeship Program is managed by the Talent Developer.

As the lead on managing the staff recognition program, the Talent Developer will track and motivate staff through the incentive program and provide recommendations for changes to the program. The Talent Developer will be aware and hold membership to industry organizations and associations and be cognizant of industry trends and changes.

The successful Talent Developer will be a trusted partner of and primary contact for over 300 supply staff. The Talent Developer will be a results-drive individual, capable of ensuring that new staff are scheduled to work once all documentation is complete, support staff in training on the website, and get to know each staff in order to best serve them. The Talent Developer will be able to inspire supply staff to increase their level of engagement, commitment to their role and pride to work as a part of Sentient. The Talent Developer is a RECE who has the experience to coach staff, build rapport quickly, and have both business acumen and experience in the classroom. The successful Talent Developer will bring Sentient closer to our staff and be the first choice to work for in the childcare supply staffing industry.

Key Responsibilities

The Talent Developer will:

  • Attend all Fireside Chat Orientations (virtual meetings weekly).
  • Develop rapport with prospective staff during online Orientation sessions.
  • Remain in contact with applicants through the entire onboarding process, motivating and inspiring them to work with Sentient.
  • Work in collaboration with the Client Care Coordinator to find staff to work specific shifts.
  • Lead staff communication; phone calls, e-mails, and text messages to be the consistent touchpoint for the supply staff.
  • Review staff profiles on the website to ensure the information is up-to-date and picture uploaded.
  • Plan monthly, quarterly, and yearly incentive bonuses to compliment/add to recognition program.
  • Oversee the ROE process and complete exit interviews.
  • Lead the Apprenticeship program to support the professional growth of our staff and help them to achieve their RECE designation.
  • Further develop the Apprenticeship program to ensure our sponsorship becomes a competitive advantage.
  • For staff issues in-centres, be the primary contact to coach staff through issues.
  • Track staff performance: issues, positive reviews, response to requests to work.
  • Research and be the lead information gatherer of trends in the childcare industry.
  • Work as a supply staff in centres when an emergency arises, and we need a staff in-place.
  • Plan professional development online courses (minimum 5 per year) based on the needs and desires of our staff.
  • Write monthly articles for the staff newsletter.
  • Attend to Quality Assurance for our Supply Staff (Q.A.)
  • Plan the annual Staff Appreciation Event.
  • Provide ideas to better support our staff to engage with shifts, recruit, train and develop, and retain.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must hold an Early Childhood Education Diploma from an accredited institution or its equivalent.
  • Must have proof of current registration with the College of Early Childhood Education and be a member in good standing.
  • Must have a current clear Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
  • Must hold a valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C certificate.
  • Must provide an up-to-date immunization record as per new Ministry requirements.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience working with children between the ages of 18 months – six (6) years. Asset: School Age experience.
  • Must have excellent command of the English language (both oral and written); highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to co-operate, follow instructions and make difficult decisions.
  • A working knowledge of the Ministry of Educations Early Years Act and the City of Toronto's Assessment for Quality Improvement.
