    New Afton Mine

    Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

    Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

    About the Role

    Schedule: 5x2, or 4x3

    Position Reports To: Human Resources Manager

    Position Overview: The Community Relations Coordinator will support effective engagement with community of interest groups while collaborating closely with site departments to assist the operation in achieving New Afton's Toward Sustainable Mining protocol objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Support community engagement with local community of interest (stakeholder) groups to uphold social responsibility.
Develop and maintain relationships within the local community of Kamloops by administering New Gold's community management standards. Manage and organize the community investment program for the New Afton Mine, coordinate capacity building meetings with local non-profit and charitable organizations. Manage and organize the community Feedback Group and help to improve two-way communications channels with the mine and community of interest groups. Assist in achieving New Afton's Toward Sustainable Mining Indigenous and Community Relationships protocol goals Act as the key point person in self-assessments and external audits for the department. Participate in community events as a representative of New Afton Mine Review and update the Community procedures annually and action items to align with site procedures and strategic plans. Presentation creation, reports writing, receiving invoices and editing internal Microsoft SharePoint pages. Chair the Social Closure Committee and play an active role in community engagement, validation of stakeholder feedback, qualification of recommendations and action tracking.

Qualifications

Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Communications or related field and minimum 3 years of experience working with community stakeholders. Outstanding verbal (phone and in-person), written communication and presentation skills Experience organizing community engagement sessions Experience implementing sponsorship and donations programs Experience writing newsletter articles, creating communications material for social media channels Experience using Adobe Creative Suite Experience using SharePoint or file management

We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced with interdepartmental collaboration Self-motivated, with a high level of planning, scheduling, and organizational skills Ability to adapt to changing environments and collaboratively develop systems for effective community engagement Ability to work independently, and as part of a team Preference will be given to candidates that have completed IAP2 training and/or certification

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $72,500 to $85,000.
