ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager, Domestic Recruitment, the Indigenous Recruitment Coordinator will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and review of initiatives dedicated to Indigenous Communities with a goal of increasing the overall Indigenous enrolment at Laurentian University. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Center to promote opportunities that both promote opportunities and knowledge to potential Indigenous students, and engage partners in education with learning opportunities to promote Indigeneity in their communities. Finally, the selected candidate will play an integral role in the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Information Program (APSIP) as the Laurentian University representative. We are seeking a First Nation, Métis, or Inuit candidate for this position.
The successful candidate will
- Foster relationships with Indigenous support workers throughout Northern Ontario Secondary Schools and conduct a suite of presentations within these resource centers;
- Act as a point of contact for all Indigenous support workers regarding questions related to academic pursuits in post-secondary education;
- In collaboration with Varsity Recreation, represent Laurentian University at a variety of National-level and Provincial-level events in the Aboriginal Sports Circle;
- Generate and maintain a database of contact information for all National and Provincial Treaty territories;
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for community and education (secondary school, college, etc.) presentations showcasing Laurentian programming and services;
- Collaborate with the Director of the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Center to promote on campus activities with contacts across Ontario;
- Increase our summer visit programs within Ontario-based Indigenous communities for stay & learn opportunities;
- Act as the point of contact for all Indigenous applicants at Laurentian University;
- Assist in the Orientation and Transition of on-campus and online learners at Laurentian University by connecting them with the Indigenous Student Transitions Navigator;
- Collaborate with all Domestic Recruitment portfolio holders to ensure a thorough understanding of process and events for applicants;
- Assist in community needs based on qualifications and education through the duration of the APSIP program;
- Coordinate on campus drives for resource deliveries to remote regions of Ontario;
- Represent Laurentian University at all APSIP sponsored events, including but not limited to the Ontario Universities Fair, the APSIP Travel Program Tour, General Committee on Student Recruitment (GCSR), etc.;
- In collaboration with the Registrar, Director of Indigenous Sharing and Learning Center , and Deans, assist with the identification of new degree options and courses to enhance existing degree programs at Laurentian University;
- Assist in the inclusion of Indigenous languages in all recruitment activities and outreach, including but not limited to, web, digital ads, email campaigns, and other promotional or educational features of the university process;and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Undergraduate degree four (4) years in Education, Communication Studies, or Business Administration or a related discipline;
- Proof of Indigenous Identity - Status Card and/or Letter of Affiliation with a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community;
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience working in community engagement or student affairs;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous, equity, diversity and inclusion (IEDI);
- Highly developed skills in oral and written communication, including effective presentation skills;
- Comprehension of Canadian secondary and post-secondary systems;
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of related software;
- Ability to work under pressure and with deadline constraints while balancing competing priorities;
- Excellent customer service management skills;
- Valid G class driver's license; and
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is an asset.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
