Student Employment Facilitator

Reporting to the Associate Director, Applied Learning, Co-operative Education & Career Services, and working as a member of a team member, the Student Employment Facilitator is responsible for facilitating the participation of employers, students, graduates and alumni in workplace education and employment services. In support of the department's objectives and activities the Student Employment Facilitator actively liaises internally with Camosun College, departments, faculty, staff, and students, and externally with employers and relevant associations and groups. The position contributes to the ongoing development and revision of information materials (print and on-line) related to the department's activities. May be required to work at both campuses and occasionally off campus, and outside of normal office hours.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Student Assistance
• Assists students and alumni to develop work-search and job-keeping skills in preparation for employment and/or workplace experience (e.g. co-op & internship placements); provides coaching and support on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, work search & job keeping skills, and other related topics;
• Assesses student applications for prior learning assessment related to instruction provided by the department;
• Refers students, graduates and alumni to resources on (and occasionally off) campus for assistance with career and personal planning;
• Facilitates student meetings related to the services of department;
• Supports and assists faculty in the delivery of workplace education;
• Provides one-on-one, on-line and group instruction and coaching;
• Provides support and follow-up to students and employers in field placement as needed;
Employer development and relations
• Leads the development of and coordinates experiential learning placements and career opportunities for students, graduates and alumni by promoting and marketing employment services to employers, community organizations, other educational institutions, government, and alumni;
• Contributes to the planning and implementation of marketing, outreach, and employer relations activities of the department;
• Assists employers in development of job descriptions, job specifications, and employer profiles for student and graduate information;
• Advises employers on relevant Camosun College's standards, expectations, and procedures; and provides information on external programs such as Employment Standards and wage subsidy programs;
Coordination of departmental events, initiatives and information resources
• Contributes in a collegial manner to the planning, execution and effectiveness of departmental activities, events, operational practices, etc.;
• Interacts with relevant faculty and staff to ensure the effectiveness of CESE department functions;
• Markets, promotes and advertises the services of the department to students, graduates and alumni;
• Organizes and plans events including career fairs, open house, student orientations, employer receptions and information sessions;
• Develops relevant information materials including workshop handouts, information packages, brochures, etc.
• Contributes, in consultation with faculty, to the development of employer information resources such as profiles of student and graduate skills, knowledge and capabilities;
• Contributes to the coordination and planning of departmental events, projects and activities particularly in relation to employment trends and employment facilitation practices;
• Working individually, or as a team member or project leader, carries out special projects or tasks as directed and ensures their timely completion;
• Gathers information, conducts basic research, and prepares reports as directed on issues relevant to the department (e.g. operational practices; learning resources; revenue & funding sources, etc.);
• Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity. Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required, and three years relevant experience in employment coaching services or similar HR work, preferably in a post-secondary setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Solid knowledge of the Canadian labour market, Canadian workplace practices, job search strategies and techniques. Sound general knowledge of major internet-based employment and career services resources, and related information sources; familiarity with local and regional employment service providers and networks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interaction and presentation skills for the purposes of facilitation/coaching/instruction, client relations, service, marketing, promotion, and fundraising, etc.
• Demonstrated organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills; intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Superior skills in professionalism for a diverse, fast paced, and changing work environment.
• Ability to meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing time management and workload priorities.
