Manager, Human Resources - Nairn Centre, Ontario

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the delivery of the Human Resource functions for the Narin Centre and Gogama mills in Ontario. You will be responsible for the delivery of Interfor’s Human Resources plans and programs across its Sawmills and Woodlands Operations and located at our Nairn Centre location. This position will partner with management to deliver strategic talent development activities, administer labour and employee relations events, and effectively implement HR programs and initiatives.

What You'll Do
  1. Partner with leaders to deliver strategy related to diversity, attraction, and retention, talent reviews for hourly and salary workforce.
  2. Provide expertise, support, and advice for the mill in all aspects of HR including Labour Relations, onboarding, performance management, leave management, discipline, employee relations, offboarding, payroll support, hourly compensation administration, and compliance.
  3. Be accessible to employees and routinely spend time on the mill floor and ensure follow up on concerns and issues in a timely manner.
  4. Support rollout and implementation of HR Operations goals and initiatives (attraction, retention, and diversity strategies).
  5. Be active in the community, identifying activities to promote Interfor in the community and put into action diversity initiatives.
  6. Advise and counsel leaders to prevent or resolve workplace issues; conduct investigations as required, coach and support leaders, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  7. Manage the development, implementation, and administration of human resource policies and procedures. Communicate and interpret policies and procedures as necessary.
  8. Collect, analyze, and report out on key HR metrics.
  9. Build trusting relationships with union leaders to navigate labour relations issues.
  10. Provide advice and information to managers on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement and workplace legislation and policies.
  11. Support front-line leaders to navigate and document labour and employee relations issues in a consistent way.
  12. Work with EHS on issues that may have a direct impact on labour and employment issues.
  13. Provide advice and guidance and oversee the leave management, duty to accommodate, and return to work process related to WSIB Ontario and STD/LTD programs.
What You Offer
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including talent development, labour and employee relations, and community engagement.
  • HR experience in a unionized manufacturing setting.
  • Strategic and practical labour relations knowledge and experience.
  • Experience managing multi-site operations would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • English and French bilingualism would be considered an asset.
  • Authentic interpersonal style with good communication skills.
  • Solutions-oriented business partner.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly interactive and energetic team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clear and concise information.
  • Ability to travel between the 2 locations and occasionally travel to other Interfor sites/offices.
