Fundraising and Communications Coordinator Job Description

The Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary (RVWS) is a registered charity located in rural North Gower, Ontario. RVWS rehabilitates about 1,000 injured, sick or orphaned wild mammals and reptiles annually with the goal of returning them to the wild. RVWS also provides advice to the public on co-existing peacefully with wildlife, and preventing and solvingwildlife problems.

Job Duties

Coordinate communications and stewardship activities

  • develop fundraising plans, grant applications, newsletters, e-news and other donor correspondence
  • research options and requirements for developing a capital building fund, and develop a proposed plan
  • explore options to promote planned giving and third-party fundraising
  • enhance and deliver stewardship and donor recognition communications
  • develop case for support, new donor welcome package and other fundraising resources
  • research and solicit in-kind donations of goods and services
  • assist with events and community outreach activities
  • assist with website content updates
  • respond to and track inquiries from donors and potential supporters
  • prepare and distribute tax receipts and thank you letters
  • coordinate the distribution of newsletters, direct mail, e-news and other communications
  • manage donor files, Paypal and CanadaHelps data, and eTapestry database, including data entry and verification
  • receive and process donations
  • run regular queries, reports, and excel exports and imports
  • conduct regular donor and campaign analyses

Other duties

  • collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator
  • maintain records
  • prepare verbal and written reports to management
  • other related duties as required

These jobs are made possible under the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible under the program, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

International students are not eligible participants.

Qualifications

  • a well-equipped home office, including computer and internet access
  • reliable transportation to our facility in North Gower for occasional meetings (there is no public transit available)
  • enrollment in a post-secondary institution in fundraising, advertising, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, business or related programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • previous customer service, administration, fundraising, marketing or communications experience
  • excellent verbal and written English communications skills, including telephone skills
  • exceptional planning, organization, time management and problem-solving skills
  • strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate others
  • strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • proficiency in eTapestry or DonorPerfect software, or another customer management relationship software an asset
  • proficiency in WordPress and graphic design an asset

Term and Compensation

This is a 35 hr/wk position for 8-16 weeks, beginning as early as April 22, with possibility of part-time hours from September to March. Wages are $19.00/hr. This position involves working from home with occasional (e.g. bi-weekly) on-site meetings as required.
