Northwestern Ontario, Canada Northwest Employment Works Full time

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this position is responsible for overseeing an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) funded project designed to promote capacity-building and sustainability for United Way of Thunder Bay as well as for multiple community organizations and service providers through the creation of a Community Volunteer Corps (CVC). The CVC will explore new ways to connect, engage and mobilize volunteers of all ages from diverse communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development:
❖ Develop the program with input from local nonprofits and network partners.

❖ Assemble focus group to learn about needs/interests of various volunteer segments
(secondary/post secondary students/young professionals/seniors).

❖ Conduct outreach and assemble list of organizations interested in posting opportunities on the CVC platform.

Online Community Volunteer Hub:

❖ Create user-friendly registration platform and capture volunteer data such as interests,
skills, availability.

❖ Implement dynamic matching program to align volunteers with suitable opportunities across various organizations and events.

❖ Explore potential ‘gamification’ or reward system (badges/perks) based on volunteer hours and impact.

Program Activities:
❖ Mount a volunteer recruitment campaign.

❖ Plan CVC kick-off event, bringing together potential volunteers and interested agencies
(volunteer fair).

❖ Develop and roll out workshops, online training modules, networking events and board shadowing program.

❖ Collaborate with Ontario Volunteer Centre Network and Ontario Nonprofit Network as project partners to leverage existing training resources.

❖ Organize affinity groups and networking events (Youth United, GenNext, Retire United,
Workplace Ambassadors, Leaders of the Way).

❖ Develop board leadership, matching and shadowing program.

❖ Plan and execute community-wide Day of Caring to engage high-school/university students, families, workplace volunteers, seniors, in multiple service projects.

❖ Support volunteer requirements of various United Way fundraising and community engagement events/activities.

Project Management:
❖ Oversee and manage project budget in compliance with OTF guidelines. Collect data and
information for final report to OTF.

❖ Coordinate recognition event for OTF.

❖ Collect, analyze, collate, and disseminate project insights to benefit community organizations across Ontario.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
❖ A post-secondary education in a related field and/or appropriate experience is desirable.

❖ Teamwork and collaboration.

❖ Excellent interpersonal skills.

❖ Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

❖ Advanced knowledge of appropriate computer technology.

❖ Knowledge of diverse communities.

❖ Use of a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.

Other Considerations:
❖ Candidate must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in Canada.

❖ Candidate must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 upon acceptance of
employment.

❖ Candidate must provide clear criminal records check upon acceptance of employment.
