The Canadian German Chamber promotes bilateral economic relations between Canada and Germany and is recognized as an official German Chamber of Commerce abroad by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Berlin. The Chamber is the primary contact for German and Canadian companies, organizations and individuals interested in market entry into the respective other country. The Chamber is a non-profit organization located in Toronto, ON, with a total headcount of more than 20 employees.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, this is a multi-dimensional position. The Manager will be primarily responsible for overseeing all financial accounting, HR, IT (outsourced) for the Chamber. The focus of this role is to oversee the financial governance of the Chamber, through timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis. The Manager will be responsible for reporting to Germany, along with ensuring compliance with regulation and policies. The Manager must have at least a good working knowledge of the HR function including knowledge of ESA as it pertains to compensation, along with comfort managing the employee life cycle for a small organization. The Manager will be a natural leader and play a critical role in the internal workings of the Chamber.

Education/Experience

University Degree in Business Administration / Accounting

HR Degree (e.g. CHRP) is of advantage

Minimum of three years of accounting experience.

Experience in dealing with HR matters is of advantage

Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

Experience in working with stakeholders from the private, non-profit, and governmental sectors.

Experience using QuickBooks and Dayforce/Powerpay is beneficial.

Experience in HR matters (e.g. ESA, payroll, compensation) is beneficial.

Languages

Must be fluent in English and German.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Finance

Financial planning and reporting (P&L, BS, CF)

Prepares required financial information and reports for Chamber Management, Audit Committee (AC), Board of Directors (BOD) and DIHK

Close cooperation with Chamber Management and AC.

Accounting

Timely recording of all documents and events.

Ensure proper allocation of revenue and expenses to accounts and portfolios.

Account Reconciliation

Filing of Tax Returns

Cooperation with External Auditor

Human Resources

Manage full employee cycle for the Chamber

Managing the employee benefits and pension/RRSP plan

Payroll

Review and release Chamber payroll.

IT

Liaise with the IT service providers and manage the IT infrastructure.

Other

Leadership

Develop and coach the Sr Accountant

Coach and train administrative staff to ensure accurate reporting for clients

Compensation

Base salary CAD 80,000+ annually, depending on experience
