Accreditation Canada (AC) is searching for Registered Nurses, Midwives, Surgeons, and Physicians who share our passion for achieving quality health services for all. Assessors will be working in Accreditation Canada’s program for Ontario’s community surgical centres. Using expert and trained peer assessors, Accreditation Canada will provide quality oversight to ensure facilities offer person-centred care and coordinate services to ensure patient safety. The inspections will include an assessment of the physical environment and its proper maintenance, as well as maintenance of the equipment used in the provision of services offered.In addition, facilities will be assessed on their workforce, and their quality assurance and improvement processes.

Terms : Availability to participate in a minimum of two Inspections per year. One inspection is equal to two days on site. Additionally, some preparation and travel time may be required. Inspections will be scheduled around assessors' availability. Assessors will also participate in initial training and complete ongoing learning requirements.

Compensation : Assessors are paid an honorarium for time spent on inspection and training and are reimbursed for travel expenses.

As peer assessors and champions of quality and safety, your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting on-site inspections as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assessing the quality of programs and services against an assessment standard and identifying areas of conformity and non-conformity.
  • Sharing your expertise and providing guidance on best practices in the field

You have a unique history. Does it include the abilities and experience listed below?

  • Actively or recently engaged in an acute care or private surgical clinic setting.
  • Valid professional license as a Physician, Midwife, or Registered Nurse in a relevant provincial college and in good standing.
  • As a Surgeon or Physician, experience in at least one of the following specialties: Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Nephrology, Obstetrics (surgery), Gynecology (surgery), Orthopedic, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Ophthalmologists.
  • As a Registered Nurse, a minimum of two years experience of operating room nursing experience (in the last five years).
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills and the ability to adapt communication style to the audience.
  • Ability to analyze information and draw conclusions based on direct observation and document review.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to adapt to unexpected changes.
  • Strong technological skills, including the ability to operate a computer and use web-based software.

  • Have knowledge and or experience of inspection processes.
  • Have knowledge of Accreditation Canada’s other programs (i.e. Qmentum) and accreditation processes.
  • Have experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Have experience in a clinical leadership position.
  • Have experience working with others (e.g. patients, clinicians, or administrators) on quality improvement initiatives.
  • For Registered Nurses:
    Have a Canadian Nurses Association Perioperative CPN(C) Certification.
    Are a member of the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC).
  • For Midwives:
    Are a member of the Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM).
