ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on IT Infrastructure Manager to lead our infrastructure and support team. This role is crucial in ensuring the stability, security and scalability of our IT systems while overseeing help desk operations. The IT Infrastructure Manager will work closely with the Head of Technology to develop and implement infrastructure strategies, manage a team of skilled professionals and maintain high availability of systems. The role also includes overseeing IT projects, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring financial accountability within the department. This position requires flexibility to be available during off-hours for system maintenance and emergency support.
This highly technical position is best suited to a senior IT professional with a proven track record of delivering effective strategic processes and systems. A detail-oriented, analytical thinker who enjoys a fast-paced dynamic work environment will excel in this position. A multi-faceted technical skillset is required to support the depth of technology implemented within the business. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure Management & Security
- Oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and cloud services.
- Actively participates in system configurations, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues. Leads by example in hands-on tasks when necessary.
- Oversees all network security, including physical security of facilities and system stability, preventing internal/external threats.
- Leads major infrastructure upgrades and ensures high availability and security of wired/wireless networks, firewalls (e.g., FortiGate, Cisco), and converged infrastructure.
- Ensures systems are optimized for performance and reliability.
- Maintains and enhances security standards in compliance with industry best practices.
- Regularly assesses vulnerabilities and implements appropriate security measures.
- Leverages scripting and automation to streamline infrastructure processes, monitoring, and system management, reducing manual intervention.
Systems & Business Continuity
- Manages phone/VoIP systems and ensures seamless communications across the organization.
- Develops, implements, and maintains robust backup, disaster recovery, and incident response plans using tools like Veeam, Commvault, etc.
- Ensures business-critical systems (e.g., Syteline, Windchill, SQL, O365) are protected with redundancy and recovery measures in place.
- Manages the help desk operations, ensuring timely resolution of user issues and requests.
- Monitors and improves support ticket processes and performance metrics to enhance user satisfaction.
- Ensures a reliable on-call rotation among team members.
Provides insight and analysis to department and various stakeholders
- Oversees all IT infrastructure projects, from initiation to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
- Coordinates with internal stakeholders, executives, and technical teams to prioritize projects and ensure alignment with business needs.
- Tracks and reports on project progress, proactively addressing risks and issues.
- Maintains thorough documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Provides regular updates and reports to the Head of Technology on infrastructure performance, projects, and financials.
- Manages and monitors software licensing and vendor compliance, ensuring adherence to EULA requirements.
- Supports business operations during off-hours for implementations and critical system failures to minimize disruptions.
Team Leadership:
- Manages a team of 3 direct reports, setting job expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing mentorship.
- Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment with an emphasis on respect and personal development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience as an IT specialist or in a similar leadership role.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management experience.
- Advanced technical knowledge in server infrastructure, networks, Hyper-V, scripting/automation, and cloud systems (Azure AD hybrid environment).
- Proven experience with disaster recovery, backup solutions, and incident response (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
- Familiarity with ERP systems like Syteline, product lifecycle management tools like Windchill, and databases such as SQL.
- Certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, or other relevant credentials preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and valid insurance.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS
- Communication: Must be able to interact professionally, communicate effectively and exchange information accurately with all internal and external stakeholders through email, phone communications and face-to-face contact; must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communications; proven skills to interact effectively with employees to direct workflow, assess performance and assign duties.
- Mobility: Must be able to sit/stand at a computer terminal for extended periods of time; required to go to various locations, both within the organization and offsite; may be required to travel internationally; some reaching for items above and below desk level; some reaching, bending, squatting and stooping to access hardware and servers.
- Manual Dexterity & Coordination: Must have the strength, dexterity and coordination to regularly use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and phone; dexterity and coordination to move components (servers, monitors, other hardware) that weigh up to 45 kg. underneath desks and/or overhead, manipulating wires and cords.
- Vision: Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to view computer screens and documents for accuracy; depth perception/spatial visualization required.
- Cognitive Ability: Must be able to analyze and interpret system needs and offer the appropriate options, solutions and resolutions required; must possess high level of critical and logical thinking, analysis and reasoning; must have strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail; must be highly proficient with technical knowledge, mathematics and spatial visualization; must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; must be able to learn and retain large amounts of detailed information; must be able to supervise employees by organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments, as well as measuring and reporting results; must be able to act responsibly, discreetly and ethically and maintain strict confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role is performed primarily in an office environment which is typically quiet. Most of your duties will be fulfilled with the use of a computer and office equipment, with communications taking place by phone, email or in person. Some functions of your role will be conducted in the manufacturing facilities, where you may be exposed to dust particulates, noise and heat.
- This position requires frequent, dynamic interaction through face-to-face contact, email and phone communications.
- Must be capable of traveling to other locations as required to perform job function.
- Must be available during off-hours for urgent system maintenance, upgrades and incident response.
- Must have the ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to handle frequent interruptions to planned work activities, often without prior notice.
- Must be able to respond and adapt quickly in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Must be able to handle the stress of dealing with issues in a professional manner.
- Must be willing to participate in seminars, training and/or thought leadership relevant to the position or industry.
- Follows all company and OSHA Safety regulations; works in a safe manner and uses personal protective equipment, if required; reinforces housekeeping and Keilhauer’s core values.
- May be required to work outside of standard hours to accommodate business needs; employee is expected to be available during off-hours to resolve unexpected system failures relating to the responsibilities outlined in this job description.
