Canada Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation (CNAR) Full time

The Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation (“CNAR”) is a non-profit membership organization connecting Canada's provincial and national regulators, licensing boards, accrediting agencies, examining bodies, and government officials at all levels to discuss challenges, share ideas and develop best practices related to a wide range of issues relevant to organizations engaged in the self-regulation of professions and occupations. CNAR is proud to host virtual offices in various cities across Canada.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Education & Research Programs, the Learning Specialist contributes to high quality programming by applying adult learning principles and methods to CNAR’s education programs. The Learning Specialist has a key role in developing, administering, and maintaining new program areas (e.g., courses and certificate and certification programs) and administering programming through a learning management system. The Learning Specialist also supports existing programs, such as by identifying learning needs and opportunities, helping to develop program agendas and learning objectives, contributing new ideas for attendee engagement, and developing processes and tools that support effective program design and delivery. The Learning Specialist is self-driven, a team player, creative thinker, adaptable, and values lifelong professional learning.

While the CNAR Team works remotely, annual travel within Canada will be required for the Annual National Conference, staff retreats, and any other in-person events that may be held from time to time.

Main Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of adult learning principles and methods in the design, development, delivery, administration, maintenance, and evaluation of new courses and certificate and certification programs for the regulatory community in Canada in accordance with best practices and industry standards. This includes working with external consultants and work groups of subject matter experts from the regulatory community.
  • Help develop, and lead the administration of, a new learning management system for online courses and certificate programs, including administering programs through the system, responding to queries, and managing program-related records.
  • Collaborate with, and support the administration of, the Education Program Advisory Committee and other education program work groups established to develop workshops and other learning events.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with event presenters about learning objectives, format, attendee engagement methods, and session logistics.
  • Help develop, review, and update guidelines, tools, policies, and protocols to support effective education program design, delivery, and evaluation in accordance with best practices.
  • Support the administration of the Communities of Practice Program, such as by coordinating group virtual meetings and assisting with in-person events at the Annual National Conference.
  • Review and analyze feedback from the annual member learning needs survey and program feedback surveys to evaluate programs and identify opportunities to ensure programs continue to align to members’ learning needs.
  • Help research and identify topics, subject matter experts, and facilitators for learning events and build networks.
  • Support authors with the preparation and review of written resources (e.g., event briefs, eBooks, white papers) as needed.
  • Assist with the administration of CNAR’s Research Program as needed.
  • Assist the CNAR Team with the coordination and delivery of events, both virtual (e.g., webinars and workshops) and in-person (e.g., Annual National Conference).
  • Keep up to date with adult education principles, methods, and tools and options for attendee engagement and peer-to-peer learning at virtual and in-person learning events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience with the use and application of adult education principles and methods in education/training program design and delivery and learning management systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for certificate and certification programs, or an ability to learn them swiftly.
  • Strong program, project, and time management skills with an attention to detail and ability to work on multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Tech-savvy, especially as it relates to learning management systems and methods and tools for attendee engagement at virtual learning events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with individuals at all levels of an organization, including staff, management, CEOs, and board members.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of prior learning recognition and assessment principles and methods considered an asset.
