As part of our Indigenous Communities team, you’ll play a pivotal role in coordinating the delivery of JA Company Program for Indigenous Learners, both in-person and virtually, across schools and communities in British Columbia. The responsibilities for this role encompass overseeing educator and participant enrolment, cultivating volunteer involvement, facilitating program lessons in virtual, traditional and non-traditional educational settings, fostering alumni connections, and promoting and providing support for scholarship and award applicants.


We acknowledge that our work spans many territories and that our head office resides on the traditional and ancestral unceded shared territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations peoples.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the Program Director, Indigenous Communities, the primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the delivery of JA Company Program for Indigenous Learners.
  • Coordinate aspects related to volunteers including engagement, recruitment, training, placement, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Coordinate aspects related to educator engagement including developing relations, promoting awareness, and developing and coordinating program opportunities.
  • Attend program in person or virtually to lead and/or assist with the facilitation of program lessons.
  • Coordinate the supply and delivery of program materials and resources.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data.
  • Collect participant feedback.
  • Contribute to the development and collection of stories related to program deliveries and their impact.
  • Participate in meetings.
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a background in education, with experience in teaching or facilitating educational programs. They must have a deep understanding of Indigenous perspectives, culture, and teachings along with demonstrated experience and knowledge in integrating Indigenous perspectives into educational programming and facilitating lessons that honor and respect Indigenous cultures and teachings.


The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with Indigenous communities and interest-holders. An appreciation for Indigenous knowledge systems and a commitment to fostering cultural awareness and understanding are essential for this role.


Other qualifications of the ideal candidate include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, business administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching or facilitating educational programs, preferably in a classroom or community setting.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage educational programs effectively, including planning, scheduling, and logistics management.
  • An innovative approach marked by proactive problem-solving and the ability to generate creative solutions.
  • A youth-oriented mindset, including an awareness of their preferences, interests, and challenges is essential for this role.
  • A high level of digital literacy and be adept at utilizing digital resources to enhance productivity and achieve business objectives including a strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Salesforce, or similar CRM.
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating educational experiences and meetings using virtual platforms such as Zoom and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential for effectively communicating with educators, participants, volunteers, and other interest-holders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with educators, students, and community members, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Ability to anticipate and address challenges that may arise during program implementation, demonstrating strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt teaching methodologies and program delivery methods to meet the diverse needs of participants and stakeholders.
  • A genuine passion for education and youth development, with a commitment to empowering students and fostering their personal and professional growth.

Compensation

This is a full-time position, requiring 22.5 to 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The starting salary range for this role is $50,000 to $65,000 annually, subject to review and negotiable based on experience.


An offer of employment with JABC is conditional upon the successful completion of reference checks along with a successful criminal record and vulnerable sector check, as required by applicable laws and regulations.
