If so, the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) is looking for you to join our team as the Vice President of Corporate and Public Affairs.

 

SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President of Corporate and Public Affairs will oversee the development and execution of ORCA’s strategies in government and stakeholder relations, communications, and governance. As a senior leader, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the organization to achieve its strategic objectives, advance the retirement community sector, and drive membership satisfaction, engagement, and growth.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Strategic Leadership and Advocacy

•     Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing expert counsel on positioning with government, stakeholders, and public health sector partners.

•     Identify and analyze key sector risks and provide actionable recommendations.

•     Develop and oversee stakeholder mapping, policy papers, and advocacy positions to support organizational strategies.

 

Stakeholder and Government Relations

•     Establish and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

•     Represent ORCA at community, government, and stakeholder meetings and events, delivering impactful presentations to advance organizational priorities.

•     Oversee the preparation of position papers, submissions related to policy, advocacy and membership issues.

•     Support the development of research and advocacy initiatives, collaborating with third-party consultants as needed.


Team and Committee Leadership

•     Provide leadership and guidance to committees, including the Strategic, Risk, and Governance Committee, Public Affairs Committee, and Health and Human Resources Committee.

•     Manage and support a team of three professionals, fostering growth, accountability, and high performance.


Communications

•     Oversee the creative and production of all communications including but not limited to newsletters, presentations, videos, promotional event materials, speeches, websites etc.

•     Lead engagement for social media and media relations.

•     Increase the public perception of the Ontario Retirement communities.


Board Governance

•     Organise the Annual General Meeting and all materials.

•     Lead the Association’s governance of the Board of Directors, including presenting to the Board of Directors and committees.


Budget Management

•     Manage budgets related to public affairs, government relations, and communications, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

REQUIREMENTS

•     A university degree in communications, political science or a university degree, with 7-10 years of experience in politics or communications and government relations.

•     Demonstrated success in working with Boards and volunteer committees.

•     Advanced analytical, written, and oral presentation skills.

•     Experience managing teams and budgets effectively.


WORK CONDITIONS

•     Professional office, hybrid work environment in Oakville.

•     Office location is near the GO Station.

•     Travel and attendance at ORCA events. 

•     Salary starts at $115,200 + 15% bonus (based on performance and Association’s financial outcomes).  

•     Health and Dental benefits and matching RRSP of up to a maximum of 4 per cent of base salary.
