ANALYTICAL CHEMIST


Function/Description:

Perform instrumental (HPLC/GC/IC/ICP-MS) analyses and basic routine testing (which are primarily wet chemical methods) on client supplied samples such as raw materials, in-process, finished products and stability samples.


Education/Requirements:

1.    University degree in chemistry or pharmaceutical science or related scientific field from an accredited post-secondary institution.

 

2.    Previous Job Experience: Preferred minimum 2 to 3 years’ Canadian experience in a laboratory environment. On-the-job training will be provided. Previous GC and/or HPLC experience would be preferred. Familiarity with Canadian GMPs.

 

General Duties:

1.    Performs routine analyses and experiments, method transfers or method development and/or method validation as assigned by area management and in accordance with the test methods as outlined in the accompanying work order and/or management's instructions. Be able to perform the following with some guidance from supervision:

a.    Plan and organize workload efficiently;

b.    Follow designated client procedure; compendial monograph and/or S.O.P. without deviation;

c.     Prepare reagents; test solutions; and volumetric solutions;

d.    Independently operate all basic laboratory instrumentation such as balances; IR spectrophotometer; UV/VIS spectrophotometer; pH meters; Polarimeter; Viscometer; Karl Fischer apparatus; Dissolution apparatus; and any other equipment necessary to perform tests, such as shakers, stirrers, centrifuges, drying ovens, vacuum ovens, and muffle furnaces;

e.     Independently operate and is familiar with the theory of sophisticated instrumental analysis (HPLC, GC, IC, ICP-MS).

 

2.    Records testing conditions/parameters and results lucidly for review and writes reports accordingly.

 

3.    Immediately informs area management of any testing deviations, equipment malfunction/failure, out of specification results or problems as they arise.
