Alert Labs is seeking an experienced software development lead with a passion for architectural design, leadership, and innovative solutions. Our cloud software handles a thousand reports per minute and transforms that stream into smart alerts, insights, and dashboards for our customers. We’re hiring a team lead for our systems (back-end) software team to help us continue to expand and grow.

What kinds of activities will you do as a Software Team Lead?

You’ll provide strategic leadership and architectural expertise to enhance our cloud services. You’ll work with stakeholders including our front-end, data science, and firmware teams to support new products and features. You’ll also have a high level of ownership for our software architecture and take the initiative to recommend improvements and proactively address challenges

What’s our tech stack?

You will primarily be responsible for our platform servers written using Node.js and Typescript. We use Flutter for our AlertAQ application (web and mobile) and python on the Analytics team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex back-end projects from conception to completion
  • Develop and maintain robust, scalable, secure, and efficient services
  • Collaborate with product management to define and implement new features
  • Participate in or lead architectural planning and decision-making
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members as a direct manager
  • Plan and manage sprint goals for your team
  • Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment

Must Haves:

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science/engineering and 6+ years of professional experience, or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a software team
  • Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms, databases, and/or distributed systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience developing and maintaining server-side or distributed applications or services

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Typescript and Node.js
  • Experience with MongoDB
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

This position is a hybrid role with 1-2 days in-office weekly as needed. Our office is located at 2 - 132 Queen St. S in Kitchener, Ontario.
