Role Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the EHS program at the site under the direction of the EHS Manager. The EHS Coordinator will participate in developing and strengthening EHS program elements by working collaboratively with others across the organization. The EHS Coordinator will be able to balance EHS departmental objectives and support the business as well. The person in this role is responsible for coordinating the EHS program, including employee training and various activities, as directed by the EHS Manager.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the EHS Manager, as well as other managers, supervisors and employees, to develop a consistent and comprehensive EHS program.
  • Delivers new employee EHS orientations.
  • Participates in the development of internal EHS training modules.
  • Coordinates EHS training sessions.
  • Tracks EHS training sessions and maintains EHS training records.
  • Participates as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and works collaboratively with the JHSC to improve workplace health and safety.
  • Knowledgeable about Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, EHS trends and best practices.
  • Maintains Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.
  • Participates in developing a hazard identification program and coordinates program continuance.
  • Participates in developing a leading indicators program and coordinates program continuance.
  • Works with the EHS Manager to update and develop EHS policies and procedures and programs.
  • Provides onsite EHS support to departments across the organization.
  • Coordinates Occupational Health programs.
  • Coordinates injury management program elements, such as Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, incident investigation.


Qualifications:

  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Combination of a diploma or degree in a science discipline plus a certificate in OHS is ideal.
  • 2 years of experience as an EHS Coordinator.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental laws and regulations.
  • Strong computer literacy using Microsoft Office and related business and communication tools.
  • Able to work onsite during business hours per business needs.

  • Excellent speaking and listening skills to share information effectively, while paying careful attention to concerns and questions from employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Can resolve employee concerns and inquiries and able to determine when to escalate.
  • Able to ensure the workplace is compliant with OHS standards, maintain records regarding employee training, and be considerate when composing correspondence.
  • Able to interact, converse and connect with individuals from various backgrounds and experiences.
