Intermediate/Senior Planner

The Intermediate Planner coordinates and manages projects through the project lifecycle. This position works closely with all internal and external stakeholders ensuring each project deliverables are achieved. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of project files as well as liaise with municipal and agency staff and attend client and stakeholder meetings.


Key Responsibilities

  • High level of coordination with the planners and several municipalities for getting the necessary approvals for multiple developments and construction projects
  • Works collaboratively with peers and to define various planning and design solutions
  • Produces high-quality drawings, models, layouts, plans, reports and other materials for communication with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the approval process, such as Official Plan amendment, Zoning, Draft Plan/Site Plan approval and subdivision registration is necessary.
  • Maintain liaison between the several consultants to satisfy the requirements set out in different agreements
  • Completing applications and paperwork for submission to consultants as well as government agencies
  • Ensure that aggressive deadlines are set and met by everyone on the team
  • Working in a team environment and making sure that everyone is on the same page and aware of what needs to be done and by whom
  • Weekly updates on all projects must be submitted to management
  • Supports senior staff who manage projects and different aspects of the business


Key Qualifications

  • A degree in urban planning, geography or a related field
  • Active membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
  • 3+ years’ related work experience preferably in the consulting industry
  • Developing planner competencies as described with OPPI (Ontario Professional Planners Institute)
  • Sound knowledge of the Ontario Planning System, including relevant legislation and the development approval process
  • Sound knowledge of Planning Legislation such as Official Plans, Secondary Plans and Zoning By-laws
  • Proven experience with facilitating conversations with Municipal and Regional approval authorities
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Highly efficient and effective in working in an individual as well as team environment
  • Ability to handle a high level of responsibility
  • Time management skills, able to prioritize
  • Strong writing skills; proficiency in report and plan writing
