About the Role

Axis Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Senior Planner to join our team in Toronto or Vancouver. As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our cities and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead Planning and Design Practices: Seamlessly integrate planning and design practices to deliver high-quality projects.
  2. Develop and Implement Planning Strategies: Lead diverse development studies and planning approval projects for public and private sector clients.
  3. Collaborate with Architecture Team: Collaborate with the Architecture Team to evaluate site development potential and incorporate sound planning principles into the firm's designs.
  4. Position and Deliver Impactful Projects: Work with various expert teams to position, pursue, and deliver impactful city-building projects.
  5. Mentor and Supervise Junior Planners: Mentor and supervise junior and intermediate planners to support their professional growth.
  6. Enhance Firm Visibility: Collaborate with colleagues locally and nationally to address critical urban issues and enhance the firm's visibility through industry events, articles, publications, award submissions, presentations, networking, and participation in the broader planning and design communities.
Requirements
  1. Education: Degree in Planning.
  2. Experience: Minimum six years of experience in urban planning in North America; planning experience in Vancouver and/or Toronto an asset.
  3. Policy and Planning Expertise: Fluent and deep experience with Provincial, Municipal Policy (Growth Planning, Supportive 'Infrastructure' Planning (e.g. Transportation and Movement, Housing), Official Plans, Neighbourhood Plans, etc.).
  4. Development Planning and Approvals Management: Development Planning and Planning Approvals Management expertise, including the authorship or coordination of planning rationales, design justifications, and other planning reports required for municipal approvals.
  5. Community Design Experience: Community Design experience (Area Specific Design Framework + Policy Development + Parameters for the Built and Public Realm Environments).
  6. Public Engagement and Consultation: Public Engagement and Consultation.
  7. Housing Expertise: Solid understanding of the range of Housing issues and priorities in Metro Vancouver or Greater Toronto including the delivery of affordable housing, seniors housing and neighbourhood infill.
