Role Overview: The Senior Development Accountant will be the key accounting representative on the assigned development projects. The role will support and collaborate with other departments to monitor and forecast project performance on development projects across asset classes. The position requires a person with strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills. The ideal candidate is a team player with a passion for real estate. In addition, this role involves leadership responsibilities, including supporting junior staff in their professional and technical development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of projects within your portfolio and regularly meet with project teams.
  • Manage and update project proformas and cost reports, including cash flow projections.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly variance reports for project budgets and cash flows.
  • Review and reconcile budgets, holdback accounts, loan draw requests, and invoices.
  • Prepare and review loan draw packages and work with cost consultants and lenders.
  • Ensure sufficient cash flow to cover payables and debt.
  • Collaborate with project teams for accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain financial records for projects, including:
  • Reviewing and posting monthly journal entries.
  • Reviewing bank reconciliations and balance sheet reports.
  • Providing timely financial information for decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for stakeholders.
  • Assist with audit preparation.
  • Handle ad-hoc analysis and special projects as needed


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of Development/Construction Accounting experience.
  • Bachelor of Commerce/Business Administration in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience with mentoring and training other team members preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, capable of handling both numerical data and conceptual information.


Location of Employment:

The Senior Development Accountant will be based in Toronto, Ontario.


Compensation:

CA$90,000/yr - CA$105,000/yr.

4 weeks vacation.

Better than market Benefits and pension.
