Trophy Foods Inc. is Canadian owned and operated with over 40 years of experience in serving our customers. We produce edible nuts, dried fruits, confectionery and bulk foods under our Trophy brand. We also work with grocery retailers, mass merchandisers, drug channel, and food service customers across the country to create and produce a wide variety of private label branded products.
Overview: The Assistant Category Manager is responsible for the co-ordination of procurement activities related to their assigned categories supporting Category Management while ensuring materials supply are within cost and quality constraints.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Category Manager with the daily administration of category responsibilities.
- Manage supplier setup and master data attributes including lead time variability, delivery methods, costs, and stocking types
- Analyze demand, input, and update contracts into ERP system (JD Edwards).
- Obtain pricing from suppliers and update price catalogs within the ERP system.
- Maintain supplier master data repository.
- Manage cost changes from suppliers and communicate to Category Manager.
- Support the Category Manager with ad hoc projects and data analysis.
- Work with Supply Chain team to resolve daily issues and ensure critical steps in new product launches are met.
- Partner with Category Manager to set, manage, and execute the strategic direction for secondary categories.
- Liaise between the Category Manager and suppliers to address issues or opportunities surrounding fill rates, quality, and performance.
- Communicate to the business liabilities, dispositions, and obsolescence details for transitioning items.
- Provide reports and analyses to support effective decision making.
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure contractual obligations are met.
- Stay current on industry and competitive landscape.
- Achieve corporate customer fill rate goal of 98%.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in Business Administration or related field – focus on Procurement or general Supply Chain Management preferred.
- 1 to 3 years’ purchasing experience gained in the consumer packaged goods industry.
- Prior experience managing international commodity purchases an asset.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Ability to develop and deliver well-structured summary presentations in support of negotiations, vendor reviews, and strategic reviews.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to develop well-reasoned, fact-based arguments. Ability to distill data from multiple sources into summary documentation to support decision making / direction setting.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite of products - particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Hands on experience using Tier 1 ERP functionality in a Purchasing capacity.
- Prior Experience with Supply Management and/or Material Planning module of JD Edwards considered an asset.
- Professional designation / Certification in Purchasing or related field an asset.
