The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a WaterTreatment Operations Foreperson to fill a permanent full-time position. TheWater Treatment Operations Foreperson directs work teams to completeoperational and maintenance assignments to meet departmental service levels andcomply with City Policy and regulatory standards under the guidance of theSupervisor or Lead Operator. The Operations Foreperson is responsible forperforming specialized technical and program administration work, ensuring thatall safety requirements are followed, and training for staff in the operationof the Water Treatment Plant (WTP), the Pump Stations, the Reservoirs and theResidual Management Facility (RMF). 

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

Grade 12 or equivalent. Unrestricted Level 4 Alberta Provincial Certificationin Water Treatment Education or training in a one (1) yearwater/wastewater related technical program preferred. Power Engineering 4th Class will be considered as anasset. Must successfully pass all safety certificate coursescurrently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City. To maintain certification, they are required toachieve 3.6 CEU each 3 years. Valid Class 5 Drivers License. Minimum Six (6) years in planning and operatingprocesses of municipal infrastructure in a Level III or IV certified WTP. 2 years of supervisory experience and demonstratedknowledge of appropriate supervision of respectful and inclusive workplace. Ability to work unsupervised, provide leadership andco-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions. Well-developed verbal, computer and writtencommunications skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong computer aptitude including demonstratedproficiency with City based computer programs, databases, spreadsheets andword-processing software. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability toaccurately use a wide range of testing equipment. Current knowledge on regulations, procedural updatesand water quality issues. Understand and apply applicable Alberta EnvironmentApproval to Operate. Deal with the public in a courteous and tactfulmanner. Must be physically fit in order to climb, open andclose valves, lift, bend and twist in awkward positions, moderate physicalexertion regularly in awkward positions. Ability to work inside and outside in all types ofweather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot anddisagreeable. Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specializedequipment including respirators and air quality monitors. Work may require use of harnesses andhoisting equipment.  Be able to read and understand blueprints, drawings,schematics and maps. Ability to troubleshoot diverse problems and exercisecritical thinking in the execution of their duties where precedent or policydoes not always apply.
