General Foreperson

**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill the permanent full-time position of General Foreperson - EL&P. The **General Foreperson - EL&P** is responsible to provide direction and coordination with other agencies in the installation, operation, SCADA operation and maintenance activities of the Electric Light and Power section including supervision of the Line Foreperson, Meters/Traffic Control/Sub Stations Foreperson. This position as a Safety Codes Officer designed by the Safety Codes Council of Alberta is responsible for the inspection and monitoring of the construction, maintenance and operation activities of the EL&P section as per the Quality Management Plan (QMP).
- Completion of Grade 12 and a Journeyperson Certification as a Power System Electrician, Powerline Technician or equivalent; with the ability to qualify as a Utility Safety Codes Officer.
- Minimum of five years’ experience at a working foreperson level, including exposure to all phases in construction operation and maintenance of a utility system.
- Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, material, tools, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems and including high voltage substations.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with overhead and underground line construction and maintenance work and, as necessary, safety precautions to be observed.
- Knowledge of electrical principles as applied to electrical distribution systems.
- Thorough knowledge of the Provincial Electric Utility Regulations
- Ability to plan and schedule the use of employees, materials and equipment in an efficient and economical manner.
- Ability to estimate material and equipment required for construction and maintenance plans.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and construction plans.
- Ability to maintain costs and other records and to prepare related reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with City Officials, and other Utility representatives, private contractors and general public.

**Remuneration**:
$56.29 to $70.37 per hour ($117,090 to $146,362 per Annum).

**Hours of Work**:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work when required.
