Senior Safety Specialist, Safety Resources

Primary Purpose: The Senior Safety Advisor is an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practitioner that plays a crucial role in promoting a safe and healthy environment at USask. This position focuses on implementing the USask Safety Management Systems within various departments and units. Initially, the role will emphasize injury reduction within the Veterinary Medical College, ensuring the well-being of both animals and humans. Responsibilities include managing incident investigations, Workers Compensation Board (WCB) claims, and leading injury prevention strategies. Additionally, the Senior Safety Advisor develops and delivers safety training programs. The position supports multiple programs and initiatives to ensure the University meets or exceeds regulatory compliance requirements, aligning with the strategic directions of Safety Resources and the departments and units of USask.

Nature of Work: The Senior Safety Advisor collaborates with management and other USask leaders to implement Health and Safety programs, prioritizing departments or work groups with higher safety hazards, risks, and incident rates. The role focuses on achieving regulatory compliance and addressing the needs of the campus community. It requires a compassionate approach to safety, suitable for those with a genuine interest in animal welfare. Responsibilities include responding to technical queries, promoting best practices, implementing university health and safety policies, and working with stakeholders to meet legislative requirements. The position operates in an environment of continuous change, shifting priorities, and frequent interruptions, requiring the ability to manage multiple activities and competing priorities. Technical, analytical, and process-driven problem-solving skills, along with discretionary decision-making, are essential. This position may also supervise other roles within Safety Resources.

The Senior Safety Advisor may work in potentially hazardous environments and could be required to respond to emergencies during and outside regular work hours.

Confidentiality and discretion are crucial, as the position involves handling sensitive information.

If you are passionate about creating a safer environment for both animals and people and have a background that aligns with the unique needs of this position, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding role.
