About the Role

The Manager, IT Infrastructure holds the responsibility for overseeing the operational integrity of both physical and virtual infrastructure systems. This includes the management of servers, networks, storage, and data center operations, ensuring they align with the organization's strategic goals. Reporting directly to the ITS Director of Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, this role demands a proactive approach optimizing performance to facilitate seamless business operations. The Manager is tasked with the continuous evaluation and implementation of cutting-edge cloud technologies and methodologies, fostering an environment that encourages technological advancement and operational excellence. This position requires a visionary leader who can anticipate industry trends and integrate them into the organization's IT framework, thereby enhancing the overall agility and competitive edge of the business. The Manager will also collaborate with various departments to support their technological needs, ensuring that IT infrastructure evolves in tandem with the organization's growth and the ever-changing digital landscape.

Responsibilities

Oversee data center operations, including server racks, cooling systems, and power management. Additionally, explore opportunities to migrate workloads to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for scalability and cost-effectiveness. Manage physical and virtual servers, storage arrays, and backup systems. Consider hybrid cloud solutions that seamlessly integrate on-premises infrastructure with cloud resources. Ensure reliable network connectivity, both on-premises and via cloud services. Collaborate with cloud providers to optimize network performance and security. Develop a cloud adoption strategy aligned with business goals. Evaluate Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings. Engage with vendors to negotiate contracts, monitor licensing compliance, and assess service quality. Stay informed about evolving technologies, especially in the cloud. Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and threat detection. Address compliance requirements specific to cloud environments. Prioritize user satisfaction by ensuring seamless access to cloud resources. Collaborate with service desk teams to resolve issues promptly. Stay abreast of cloud trends, certifications, and emerging technologies. Rapidly adapt to changes in cloud services and architectures. Occasional non-standard hours, especially during cloud migrations or critical incidents. Manages the staff in the ITS Infrastructure group. Participates in the strategic planning, refocusing, and restructuring of ITS by providing vision and leadership in the planning, development and implementation of an ITS vision, mission-statements, long term strategic plans, and services, that are consistent with the objectives of the University, the needs of stakeholders, and the capabilities of the ITS department.  Conducts and/or supports the analysis and improvement of MRU's business processes. Manages the planning, design, development, testing, documentation, implementation, operation, assessment, and maintenance of mission-critical hardware and services. This involves extensive collaboration and coordination within the ITS department to ensure integrated systems solutions and efficient, effective and secure day-to-day operations.  Implements sound disaster preparedness and business continuity and recovery plans, in cooperation with the business programs at the University.  Leads or participates in contractor selection and contract negotiation for major agreements such as software licensing, hardware procurement, ITS outsourced projects and support services.  Manages operational risks and provides significant contributions to MRU’s enterprise risk management practice. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

University Bachelor Degree in computer technology and/or extensive related IT infrastructure and management experience.  Minimum of 8+ years of relevant work experience and 5+ years of leadership experience; demonstrated effectiveness leading and managing highly skilled technical staff. Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and designing networks, servers, storage, and data centers. Additionally, emphasize familiarity with cloud services and their integration. Experience managing personnel and overseeing projects, considering both on-premises and cloud-based initiatives. Excellent business, negotiating, organizational, leadership, managerial, and planning skills. Understand project management, business analysis, and IaC methodologies. Certifications related to network, server, cloud, IT security, and management are valuable, especially if they cover automation tools. Emphasize both traditional infrastructure and cloud technologies, along with experience in automating tasks using tools like Ansible or Terraform. Familiarity with application delivery methodologies across multiple disciplines. Experience working with internal teams, external organizations, and automation tool providers. Leverage automation to streamline collaboration and efficiency.
