Position Information Position Number S00939 Position Title Success Centre Coordinator (Trades) Division/Portfolio Library Services Department/Program Library Location Kelowna Other Flexible Work Options Your Opportunity Under the general supervision of the Executive Assistant, Library Services, the Success Centre Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the Success Centre, including general supervision and security of the Centre. The Success Centre Coordinator provides individualized learning assistance to individuals and small groups of students in a variety of modalities, including in-person and online; supervises student employees; works collaboratively with faculty and other College departments to ensure services meet needs of students; and promotes Success Centre services. Functions and Duties 1. Provides comprehensive online and in-person learning assistance to students in support of instructor-defined learning outcomes and student success skills required to complete their program; reinforces course objectives and provides students with guidance, clarification, and/or direction in accordance with instructor styles and curriculum

2. Liaises with Departments, faculty, vocational instructors and other Student Services departments in the development and delivery of comprehensive learning assistance services

3. Administers informal assessments; refers students to other College supports as needed

4. Provides student resource materials, practice exercises and advice incorporating learning strategies in support of instructor-defined learning outcomes

5. Develops and delivers innovative workshops, handouts and services to improve student retention and success in support of and in conjunction with instructor(s)-established objectives and department needs

6. Orients students to and demonstrates the use of Success Centre educational technology and resources; assists students as needed and troubleshoots any issues with educational technology.

7. Supports students in developing positive attitudes toward learning and helps build confidence in their ability to learn; fosters students’ personal responsibility and accountability for their own learning; maintains strict confidentiality and builds trust with students while creating a safe and supportive learning space

8. Partners with Accessibility Services to support a variety of skill development needs and provide learning assistance to address information gaps, if and as necessary

9. Regularly combines knowledge, experience and judgment to quickly adapt learning assistance methodology to support student needs.

10. Develops, coordinates and oversees strategic, peer-led retention programs

11. Responds to a wide range of student inquiries and provides guidance and information to students regarding student related policies; redirects inquiries to the appropriate department or resources as needed

12. Responsible for student employees in the Centre including recruitment, hiring, supervision, scheduling, orientation and training; verifying and signing timesheets; applies for and manages student employee budget.

13. Responsible for the daily operation of the Success Centre

14. Maintains records of Success Centre use and provides statistics as required.

15. Effectively works with students utilizing interactive technology and platforms; updates and manages online student appointment booking system and schedule; prepares, distributes and posts Success Centre timetable and schedule of activities.

16. Promotes the services of the Success Centre to all students and employees.

17. Participates in student orientation activities and campus events.

18. Maintains file of proficiency and practice exams and practice material

19. Actively engages in professional development to maintain currency in subject areas and on issues related to industry trends, policies, and best practices in student learning and performance improvement.

20. Creates and maintains Success Centre procedures in consultation with management

21. Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience A Bachelor’s Degree or graduation from a four-year university program in a related area is required. A minimum 3 years related experience in a post-secondary or similar environment including experience working with a variety of curricula and pedagogies is required. Skills and Abilities - Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills- Strong organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills- Excellent judgment and the ability to identify and respond to sensitive issues or emotionally tense situations.- Advanced listening and comprehension skills to determine the needs of students of all abilities.- Ability to support students with complex learning needs- Ability to establish and maintain a high level of innovation, flexibility, and enthusiasm when working with students of all abilities even during times of high stress- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision- Proficient in Microsoft Office and use of student databases- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice within practices and processes- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and commitment to the process of reconciliation. Preferred Qualifications Experience and knowledge of Trades is preferred. Desired Start Date 07/03/2024 Position End Date (if temporary) 08/29/2024 Schedule 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (except statutory holidays)

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $34.05 - $38.90 Appointment Type Support - Non-Regular Full-time Special Instructions to Applicants Shortlisted internal candidates must notify the current Support Staff Bargaining Chairperson and People Services if they want a Union Observer during interviews and final selection of candidates.
