ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking an Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (OHS&E) with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for safety to join our team Under the direction of the Safety Supervisor, the OHS&E Advisor will facilitate the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of FMFN’s workplace safety programs. The OHS&E Advisor plays a vital role in planning and implementing measures to ensure that work hazards are reduced and works to ensure that FMFN adheres to safety standards set by the federal, provincial and municipality laws, as applicable. This is a full-time permanent position working Monday to Friday, located in Fort McKay, AB. 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Complete and maintain accurate and on-going documentation. Coordinate and facilitate new hire orientations. Ensure qualified instructors provide training that cannot be provided by the OHS Advisor. Coordinate orientation and training to make the most efficient use of resources. Incident reporting according to establish Report Matrix – including ASE Matrix. Complete LCR’s and lead accompanying incident investigations as requested by department and senior management, submitting final reports to management, client representatives for review and sign off. Manage all WCB related issues, including reporting and follow-up. Schedule and deliver employees for ‘post incident’ Drug & Alcohol testing. Provide advice and consultation to FMFN staff to assist them in maintaining a safe working environment in compliance with environmental safety regulations, standards, and practices.  Conduct risk analysis of new and existing construction projects, systems, processes, products, and physical workspaces to determine the existence and outcome of potential hazards.  Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.  Attend regular Toolbox talks. Attend scheduled Team Meetings, providing safety updates, safety statistics and a safe environment where safety issues can be identified and discussed.  Recognize or recommend employees for recognition when an employee demonstrates an outstanding commitment to working safely, with the Managers approval.  Document incidents of employee non-compliance and report to the department manager and senior site manager in a timely fashion.  Recommend that an employee be sent for Drug and Alcohol testing when that employee exhibits signs of intoxication or drug use.  Provide or direct technical testing and surveillance services as may be necessary.  Develop and implement programs and procedures to reduce the frequency, severity and cost of accidents, occupational illnesses and eliminate or control potential hazards.  Conduct annual reviews of Safe Work Practices, Safe Work Procedures and JHA’s ensuring that they are accurate and effective and that they meet OH&S and Employment Standard requirements.  Maintain and enhance working knowledge of currant Health & Safety Legislation, Federal and Provincial laws (as they pertain to safety), OH&S regulations and the Policies and Procedures established by the FMFN.  Distribute and inform senior/department managers of updates to applicable legislation, regulations, and policies in a timely fashion.  Assist Managers in maintaining and enhancing a safe environment.  Assist with safety planning on construction projects.  Provide daily updates to department managers regarding incidents or any other safety related concerns in a timely fashion.  Recommend changes to Safe Work Practices, Safe Work Procedures and JHA’s and company policy as they relate to Health and Safety.  Respond to and rectify safety related concerns immediately. Work to ensure that all FMFN and OH&S requirements are adhered to at all times.  Maintain all licenses, permits or other professional designations as required by your current duties, including vehicle information, insurance, and regulations.  Other related duties as required.  KEY REQUIREMENTS Grade twelve Diploma or GED equivalent is required.  Valid Construction Safety Officer certificate issued by the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) or another recognized institution is required.  OH&S Certificate is considered an asset.  Minimum three years’ experience in the field of construction safety or related field is required.  Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).  Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset Ability to speak, read and write Cree and/or Dene is considered an asset Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Some travel is required.  Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract required ABOUT FORT MCKAY The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
