Description

The Controller of Property Management Accounting is responsible for the development /management of the Property Management Accounting Department and will provide strategic direction, planning and oversight regarding accounting controls; procedures; systems; reporting and staffing. This person will have a proven track record in managing a team and working closely with operations & executive level managers as a motivator, good communicator, and a hands-on leader.

What You Will Do:

Oversee the Commercial & Residential Accounting department. Lead, train, and mentor the accounting team. Implement and ensure quality controls for accounting and reporting. Establish and maintain best practices; collaborate with department heads for improvements. Ensure and periodically review accounting controls. Supervise accounting processes and staff to meet objectives.

Reporting:

Prepare and verify monthly financial reports for all properties. Review accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding items. Ensure the team provides necessary operational reports.

Systems:

Lead Yardi implementation, including training and system optimization. Collaborate with departments to enhance system use and reporting.

Budgeting & Tax:

Participate in annual budgeting; manage budgets in accounting software. Conduct final audits of CAM reconciliations and manage property tax recoveries. Review budgets and ensure accurate property tax payments.

Other:

Approve Lease Abstracts and month-end procedures. Verify move-outs and assist with year-end audit queries. Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

Minimum of 5 years of property accounting expereince A CPA professional accounting designation Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance Experience working with Yardi an asset Strong problem solving, communication (verbal and written) Computer skills: Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced Excel)
