An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual to join our Paediatric Orthopaedic Team. We have a vacancy for a Paediatric Scoliosis Nurse Specialist. First starting as a Band 6 Nurse Specialist who will work through a range of learning objectives/assessments in the first 12-18 months of post to develop into a Band 7 Nurse Specialist.

Main duties of the job
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers aspecialist Orthopaedic service for spinal problems in both children and adults. We're one of very few units in the country with a dedicated service for children, with specially trained clinical staff, advanced facilities and a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. We are also one of the busiest centers in the UK for the advanced treatment of certain complex spinal deformities, such as scoliosis.
Candidates will have previous experience and knowledge of the specific needs for this patient group.
The successful candidate must be Registered nurse (appropriate to branch), hold a Degree / Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience and have extensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice

Job description
Job responsibilities
The Paediatric Scoliosis Nurse Specialists role is primarily involves:
Act as lead contact for families and patients
Lead on Nurse Led Clinics for new and review patients
Lead on Paediatric spinal pre-assessment including organising appropriate diagnostic tests and scans
Preoperative preparation of patients requiring spinal including coordinating MDT meetings with children and families
Collect outcome data collection and registry for paediatric patients within the service
Liaison for young people for transition, working closely with colleagues in adult orthopaedics.
Provide specialist clinical advice to ward nursing staff and junior medical staff
Deliver training to new starters on the Paediatric Orthopaedic ward, staff induction programs and Orthopaedic study days
The successful candidate will be supported within the framework of dynamic childrens hospital and work closely with the consultant leads for this service

oRegistered nurse (appropriate to branch) oCurrent NMC registration oDegree / Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience. oExtensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice. oExtended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment. oMeets Nursing and Midwifery Council requirements for mentorship if relevant to role. oGood IT skills oAudit / research experience. oEvidence of on-going continuous professional development. oEvidence of good communication and interpersonal skills oEffective report writing skills oAbility to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team oEffective organisation and time management skills oKnowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context. oHas understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding. oCurrent driving licence if relevant to role
Desirable
oMaster's degree. oManagement experience/qualification. oEvidence of leading programme/programmes of education and/or training.
