About the Role

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Scoliosis Nurse Specialist to join our Paediatric Orthopaedic Team. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to children and young people with scoliosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a lead contact for families and patients, providing expert advice and support.
  • Lead on Nurse-Led Clinics for new and review patients, ensuring seamless care pathways.
  • Preoperative preparation of patients requiring spinal surgery, including coordinating MDT meetings and diagnostic tests.
  • Collect and analyse outcome data for paediatric patients within the service, informing service improvements.
  • Liaise with young people and colleagues in adult orthopaedics to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to ward nursing staff and junior medical staff, promoting best practice.
  • Deliver training to new starters on the Paediatric Orthopaedic ward, staff induction programs, and Orthopaedic study days.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current NMC registration.
  • Extensive post-registration experience, including some senior-level experience within the specialist area of practice.
  • Good IT skills and evidence of on-going continuous professional development.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy and project-specific policy context.
