Job Overview

The Senior Developer will be part of our Life Edge Digital Delivery team and contributes to Wawanesa’s success by designing, documenting, developing, testing, and supporting system solutions to meet business stakeholder requirements. 

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and enjoy working in an agile scrum team that facilitates rapid design, development and implementation of application changes that embodies a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development. You will have experience with establishing best practices, mentoring, process improvement and technical proficiency with React. 

Our Life Edge area is beginning a large business and technology transformation. As well as maturing our current delivery processes and practices.

Job Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and test software. Prepare technical specifications from requirements. Maintain the operation of business systems and applications. Assist solution analysts with clarifying business request details. Mentor other developers. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents. Participate in planning activities. Estimate and track progress of assigned work. Create and update relevant documentation. Follow and contribute to improving established practices, processes, and guidelines. Keep current with relevant technologies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience. Four years of practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages/techniques and working with relational database systems and structured query languages or equivalent knowledge/experience. Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message. Experience developing user interfaces with React, developing APIs, secure web development practices, utilizing AWS components.  Must be able to work with VS Code, JIRA, Confluence, Git, CodeCommit and GitHub Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them. Must be able to understand complex/complicated concepts and work with them or turn them into elegant, streamlined solutions. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members. Ideal candidate is a team player. Effective organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities. Ability to provide timely responses via Instant Messaging platform. Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in field and have the ability to apply learning to new situations. Experience with the following is considered an asset: Amazon Web Services Well Architected Framework. POSIX/Linux/Unix systems. Modernizing custom frameworks. Delivering demos to clients and business contacts Familiarity with Windows; MySQL; Microsoft SQL Server; NoSQL is considered an asset. Certifications in relevant technology is considered an asset. Knowledge and experience in the Insurance industry is considered an asset.
