What you’ll do in the role

Plan, participate and coordinate cultural, recreational, and social programming for the children and youth. Provide children/youth with behavioral challenges opportunities to positively engage in pro-social activities, Provide case management to youth in need of individual support such as crisis intervention, dispute resolution and other supportive intervention. Monitor youth progress and cultural needs. Provides information, referrals and follow-up services to children and youth. Provide life skills support and goal planning, including educational and job readiness. Maintains accurate and up-to-date case files according to specified timelines and provides written reports as requested.

What you bring to the table

Must have a Child and Youth Diploma, Social Services Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working within a social services context, preferably with Indigenous families. Sound understanding of harm reduction, addictions, mental health, Indigenous healing practices and history, developmental issues and high-risk situations faced by children and/or youth. Understanding systemic barriers faced by youth and the ability to advocate within these systems. Knowledge of individual, family, child, adolescent, and group behavior. Knowledge of local community agencies and other professional services available Willingness and ability to support both traditional and contemporary healing practices and experience in collaborating with Elders, Healers, and contemporary helpers. Must have experience in counselling, case management, file maintenance and statistical reporting. Ability to work collaboratively and to elicit cooperation from others. Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of competing and urgent demands. Excellent intake assessment, crisis intervention, and advocacy skills. Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiating, decision making, planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills. Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s licence, be willing to travel, able to work flexible hours. Must produce clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening The ability to speak a native language is considered a major asset.
